I never imagined this would ever actually happen - sitting at JFK waiting for my flight and an old man tells me to watch his bag and his charging cell phone, he’s gonna go buy a coffee.

Fuck no old man! Ain’t nooooo fucking way. Literally took me a few seconds to comprehend what he was asking/telling me. After telling him he had to take his stuff with him a few times he finally relented and agreed and then even apologized and said, “yes you are right, thank you, you are right”. No idea if he was an undercover cop or airport worker or what. Such a strange interaction and never actually thought someone would ask a stranger to watch their bag, holy shit.

 

It’s the midwestern in me but I would’ve said yes without thinking twice.

 

Are you worried that it’s a bomb or something? What’s the issue

 

They’ll be putting my ass in airport jail cause I can’t say no to anyone about anything and need all strangers to love me

 

I feel like it’s been shouted in airports since probably 9/11 that you are never supposed to watch a bag for a stranger. You’re actually supposed to notify security if someone asks you to do that or if you see a bag left unattended.

 

I would have pretended I didn’t speak English.

Same and I was about to when he first said just his phone and pointed at it. Once I asked if the bag was his and if he was leaving it or taking it and he said he was leaving it that’s when I paused and then realized that I couldn’t say yes. Most of me immediately was gonna be like, “yeah sure whatever, no biggie” and then I realized how bad/weird that this could go
