I feel like Young the Giant, Walk the Moon, New Politics, MAX, Misterwives, etc. deserve their own genre name. Perhaps “Targetcore”? It’s like they’ve all cracked the code on how to make music that ends up in retail spaces and commercials without anyone actually noticing or caring about it.

Maybe you’re right and I’m just a hater, but I can’t imagine people clamoring to fill the Aaragon Ballroom on a weeknight for YTG. I really do imagine a large portion of the crowd leaves after Gaslight.

Foo at Providence Park is not something I expected at all and that sounds like a blast.

    That would have been perfect

I’m gonna do Bleachers, and hope it’s possible to catch gaslight anthem before Lawrence arms go on at the metro that night

Everyone's entitled to their opinion but I think you're about as far off base as possible for Young The Giant. They're a fantastic live band, and I've seen them 3 times and they have always killed. Twice was headlining and then another time at a festival where they had a great spot and a big draw. I also think they're a little different from the other bands you mentioned. A bit more serious and less bubblegummy pop than the other guys. Walk the moon are just a big too 'big' and 'corny' for me.

I’m kinda surprised that they don’t do more shows at Providence Park. I’ve seen a lot of people complain that bigger acts skip Portland, so it seems like it could be a good choice for more stadium-popular bands to play at. But I’m also not a local or anything, so maybe I’m totally off

I like YTG but can't really back the "They're a great live band" argument. I'm a bit jaded (been to quite literally something in the field of 1700+ shows) but the others listed such as Misterwives, Walk The Moon and New Politics are far better live. YTG's catalog is just full of way too many mid-tempo slogs so live it just gets a bit dull.

Fair enough. It was a while ago I saw them and to each their own about what makes a great live band. I'd probably like walk the moon live, but on album, they're just too 'trying to hard to be fun' I guess, but I do feed off of great energy and fan enjoyment when looking at a live a show. I remember that even for the slow songs for young the giant, they had the crowd engaged and the lead vocalist sounded great live.

But yea, it's all subjective (for the most part). Some bands objectively are bad live though.

Are LCD Soundsytem playing a bunch of NYC shows again? Or what?

I also think Young the Giant is a great live band. I might go to that show, especially with Gaslight opening. (Will definitely be at Bleachers).

You’re not off. Portland itself doesn’t have 20K outdoor venue and it causes some tours to skip here in the summer. There is a shitty LN amphitheater across the river in Vancouver, but it is a huge pain to get to in rush hour and takes forever to get in/out of the parking lot. I’m hoping Providence Park gets a few more big shows for next summer.
