Catalyst is the only DTR release I have any interest in. I'm not much for pop punk, but I'll grab that record.

Hadn’t listened to this album in a minute before it showed up today. Truly an angsty trip down memory lane.

It’s funny, I was obsessed with Drive Thru as a kid and looking back now even with the nostalgia glasses on…they really don’t have a ton of great releases. It’s glaring towards the end.

20 or so great releases is a ton to me.

I mean, due to the upstream deal, I don’t know if all the albums fall under them still. But as far as bands go, they CRUSHED it.

NFG, Midtown, SoCo, TSL, HIPV, Finch, TEN, Allister, Home Grown, RX Bandits, and I know I’m forgetting some. When they signed a band, you knew it was gonna be good.

Wasn’t the whole point of them creating Rushmore Records a way to circumvent this too? I remember them being very unhappy with that deal after a while cause they kept taking all their best bands.

Surely Catalyst is gonna be pressed by Universal at some point, not DTR. Who knows though.

    Re: Vinyl vs. CD

The big problem with vinyl vs. CD is with CD, you were almost guaranteed to get the optimal audio experience (yeah yeah loudness wars, etc.) With vinyl, it often depends on who is pressing and mastering it. Not a great example considering who he is, but Kanye’s MBDTF sounds great on CD and the vinyl sounds like someone is blasting it through a speaker through a wall during a nuclear test.

But the art for vinyl is unquestionably better.

I don’t think so. They still signed bands to DTR itself during that time. I think it was meant more for smaller bands.

We reach for the longest shadow

It’s funny, because when I first got into vinyl it was touted to be *the* superior listening experience for audio quality, which might be true for people with thousands of dollars of listening equipment and the perfect pressing, but now it really feels more like a collection/aesthetic/ritualistic type of hobby than one based on audio quality itself.

Picked up WAAT, AITA, S&S, DTLI, AKNF and BCR from UDiscover. Acronyms ahoy, a not-awful but not-great £250 shipped to the UK but it's payday soooo. Looking forward to those.

Re: CDs. Several years ago I threw out most of my CDs and cases but kept all the booklets for some reason. I don't really look at them and they've been kept in a box all this time. But they're kind of cool. Anyone interested in a bunch of 00s scene band CD inserts? For free?

  19. Yeah vinyl is definitely more of an esthetic thing than a sound quality thing for me. I just like having stuff. Maybe too much stuff.

This is something that has never been pressed. So, it’s definitely not SILYMI.
