This board is pretty into post hardcore/emo. Hell, Mineral and CFD are top 5 bands for me. Static has some classic tracks for sure (17 is a top 15 song probably) but even next to those bands it really isn't great. Add to that the fact that their other albums sound totally different, it makes a lot of sense static would get glossed over. Everyone here's even admitted they like static, just less so than the others. For what it's worth, as someone who'd put EndSerenading and CTL in my top 20 all time favorites, I don't even listen to static that much. It is not what I want out of Jimmy eat world.

 

I'm sorry you were insulted. When I said "thanks for taking the time to understand the point I was making" or whatever, I said that because I was frustrated that I felt like you and Craig were taking something negative from what I was saying when I really didn't intend to write anything negative.

Doesn't it frustrate you sometimes when you pour effort and thought into a post or idea (my post was quite long so I did spent some time and thought on it), only to have someone come back with a comment that completely disregards it and calls it pointless in like 2 sentences? I was frustrated and felt like you didn't give my thoughtful post a chance. Can you blame me for reacting in a condescending way as a result? Like I said, sorry you were insulted.

 

I recommend it. It isn't amazing or anything. It's definitely one of the bands worse and least interesting albums. But I definitely don't think it's bad, and I totally think there's a lot to like about the album.

 

I think we can back off here. I'm fairly sure you've both misunderstood each other multiple times.

Your intentions don't matter when you do actually insult people. Just because I don't take the time to pick apart every point in your post doesn't mean I didn't read it or understand it. I gave my opinion on it, as did others, and you continued to be condescending. I'm really trying to make an effort here to be your friend and all, but it's hard with posts like that basically shitting on all of us for not liking the same album you like.

 

I understand it. Still don't really agree with your original point, but unfortunately people on this site often tend to react the way you described, and it frustrates me sometimes too.

 

I didn't shit on anyone for not liking the same album I like. I explained just above that everyone here has a valid opinion on Static, and I wanted to make the point that other people who happen upon this board (ie. people who aren't yet fans and aren't in this conversation) could be influenced to not bother checking out Static. I'm sorry, but I feel like you're ignoring what I'm saying if you still think I'm shitting on anyone for not liking Static.

I only wrote a few sentences in response to Minty's original post because it didn't require anymore than that to counteract his point. Soz for not writing an essay!

 

To be honest, it's pretty clear to me he's been attempting to explain his position (which I genuinely don't believe he meant to be insulting) I'm not sure how continuing to call him condescending is helping whatsoever.

What is your issue? No one is antagonizing you. Just trying to implore you in a reasonable way not to pile on the dude.

 

We've taken it to PMs to sort it out. I'm not trying to pile on him, i just don't like being insulted and antagonized by friends

 

It's not such a big deal. To be honest I might bounce out of this forum pretty soon anyway because me being here is only causing more friction than is necessary (not just this topic but in general). I got by for many years just being a lurker on AP anyway so maybe I'll do that, or just find somewhere else to discuss music if needs be.

Yeah, I get what you mean. I've championed many an underrated album on these forums, so I know what it's like being a lone voice. And I get that you weren't trying to insult or diminish anyone, so no harm no foul, as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully people will give Static another chance and come around on it more. I don't think it will ever fully click for me, but who knows.

I think there are some things that I could convey better, like what I think is something of a "time apart" but not a proper break-up between I Will Steal and Byebyelove. But I still feel really good about the whole "diary" metaphor of the interpretation where the line in Appreciation is an added note to foreshadow the album as a whole -- that moment in Appreciation is one aspect of the album that really touches me the most.
