Eman Esfandi is an absolutely perfect Ezra. Such good casting. I missed him so much and I am so happy he's back. "The force is my ally. That's all I need." Such a king.

They're saving the big emotional gut punch for Episode 8 when we have a full Spectre reunion (God I hope).

If we don’t get Ezra back home with at least Hera/Chopper and meeting Jacen, I will be pretty bummed.

I'd be pretty surprised if Zeb shows up but maybe Teva made a call to a friend?

I’d actually prefer Ezra, Sabine and Ahsoka return and when they come out of hyperspace the ghost is waiting for them and that’s the end of season 1 and save all the reunions for S2 E1 personally haha

No way Ezra is making it home.

Baylan and Shin continue to be the best part of the show. His parting words to Shin felt more emotional than any of the Rebels character reunions thus far. After his fight with Ahsoka, you could really see the conflict in him. Is he going to ho back to help Shin? Is he fearing for her safety? Is he hoping she surrenders herself to the Jedi? We don't know, but damn all I can say is RIP Ray Stevenson because he absolutely kills it in this.

Ezra and Sabine battling out together was a ton of fun. Ezra rejecting the lightsaber and saying "the force is my ally" was fantastic. Perfect casting.

I'm pretty sure I'm alone in this, but I don't really see how Thrawn is this big threat. He has one ship and a solid group of soldiers, but not this massive unstoppable army. So is it just that he'll be able to reunite all the Imperial remnants under a more solid strategy?

Also, and this is more of a nitpick because I've watched Rebels, but Thrawn's incredible tactics are almost always "We lost the battle, but we've won the war". Like every other episode of Rebels was him letting them go, but it was okay because he learned more about the enemy. This felt very similar. I'm not sure he needed to send troops to distract them at all, Ahsoka was not going after him and he already acknowledged that, so it just seemed like he wasted resources. I would've thought that Sabine and Ezra would have recognized this after having spent so much time fighting against him too.

I kinda see where you’re coming from with this. I’d really like to see a bunch of battles where his tactics and strategies just completely up-end a much larger New Republic army/fleet.

  11. Gotta read the books for more tactical prowess

having to read 9 books and watch 4 seasons of an animated show to understand the main villain in an 8 episode show is a lot to ask

  13. Just stating the books have much more of thrawn being a tactician. Consume the media you want to consume.

I remember the end of Rebels season three it all kind of coming together and being a satisfying show of what he can ultimately do, but it was just a little frustrating to see the same tactic over and over again.

I mean, the books aren't even canon, so...

    6 of them are...

I'm also more stating I agree with the poster above that in this show there hasn't really been anything to show how much of a threat he is, other than the main characters of it being afraid of him

I did listen to the audiobook of the first canon Thrawn novel. I liked it a lot. You do get a more solid idea of his skill in that than in the shows. I actually bought the other two on audible but I never got around to them.

Idk Rebels gives him some pretty solid wins. I feel like he’s presented as serious of a threat as possible in a kids show lol

  19. Totally thought he was an inquisitor, my bad. I also said he will be viewed as a coward in the eyes of Thrawn/the Empire because he essentially ran from the smoke on Peridea. I don't necessarily agree that he thought he killed Ahsoka, either, especially if he's as clued into the WBW as it seems.

Thrawn is far smarter than that. Not being in a battle does not equal being a coward. It shows him as untrustworthy and undependable for the Empire, sure. But when Ahsoka showed up, he didn’t run away. He literally says he can’t let her interfere because he knows/believes Shin can handle it. But throw Ahsoka into the mix and things would not go well for Shin. Which is exactly what happened despite his delaying Ahsoka.

Morgan says that Baylan told her he killed Ahsoka. We have no reason to believe he was lying. We have no evidence that he knows about the WBW, on top of not even knowing if that’s where Ahsoka went or if it was all in her head. It’s a lot of maybes. He was also surprised to see her on Peridia. Granted, he could have been referring only to her making the trip separately from the hyperspace ring. I think it makes more sense he may be referring to both aspects.

Ultimately, regardless of all that, he has not shown any signs of cowardice the whole season. We have known since ep 2 or 3 he always had something else in mind as his reason to go to Peridia. It was never about Thrawn to him. Him parting ways with Shin makes sense. She seems to be seeking a place to belong. Baylan is above that. He has his eyes on the prize. The coolest out there possibility is some form of Abeloth. As an EU book reader, that could be cool. However, I think it would be a lot to explain in one episode. So I don’t think it’ll go that direction.

  21. I still think he's ducking that smoke

I gotta check those books out though

What's unfortunate is that I highly doubt Baylan's story ends in the finale of Ahsoka, but with Ray passing away I'm not sure we'll the see character appearing in live action past this.

Yea, the pace slowed down quite a bit. However, I think the finale will focus mostly on Baylan. Thrawn is undoubtedly the main villain of Mandoverse moving forward leading to the movie, which is 5 or more years away, right. There will be plenty of time for Thrawn later. I think we will focus on Baylan and his story will end.

They made six books with Thrawn since The Force Awakens?
