Also I would never judge Tom's lyrics before I hear them in the context of a song. There were some objectively funny lines on Lifeforms that sound great in the context of the songs. We got lyrics to MTYK way before hearing the song and nothing could prepare for how awesome the chorus is when Tom is singing.

I remember seeing the lyrics to the chorus of No Heart To Speak Of before I heard it and being like "meh"

I'm unaware if this was discussed before but the MTYK lyric video says "wait for the phone to ring" vs the leaked vinyl lyrics "wait for the f*ckery". Guessing the lyric video is the "clean" version. I like the phone line better.

 

I can't imagine "fuckery" the way he yells it in that line. Assuming it just got changed. If they straight up put a flaming fuck sign in the music video, I doubt the lyric video was censored lol

I remember Less Than Jake describing In With The Out Crowd as a "throwback record" before it was released and compared it to the Descendents and the Ramones spouting some word salad about how it sounded "sacharine" and like "classic pop-punk" (when, in actuality, it was a swing toward what was popular in the moment). That record's aged pretty well and it's not exactly the same but... It feels like a very similar tactic is being applied with Sum-41 and Blink.

Let's talk about what the album sounds like and hope that what we manifest with words is what people actually hear when they eventually listen.

On one hand, yeah, artists have very little ability to accurately describe their own music... but they also very likely could have had that intention before WB came in and messed it up with heavy handedness. Artists like blink or Sum 41, who made their albums more independently, have the luxury of doing whatever they want.
