Between the new Sum 41 song sounds like MGK and these lyrics look like MGK; neither of which I understand at all, today's been a wild one for that comparison.

 

One of my favorite blink verses is:

You're gone when I wake up"...idk just have a similar vibe to me but to be fair he probably was going for Blink 182 esque lyrics on his "pop punk" stuff that he's done with Travis? Maybe Travis wrote the lyrics, who knows lol. Idk, just the first thing that came to mind

 

The vibe of reading these is "12 year old whose parents are worried they're gonna be held back another year." And with that dumb MGK speak talk mumble stuff. The shared lyrics very much read like TOYPAJ/Enema/ST era Blink cadence IMO.

Also, now that the video has shown the artwork on a physical copy of music, that should settle the "is that really the album art?" Emphasis on should.

 

Meh, I never get myself worked up about lyrics until I hear them in context. They could be cheesy and simple but still work great given the right melody and cadence.

As long as they aren't so jarring that they take you out of the song due to clumsiness (a la Forever + Ever x Infinity), I typically don't even notice "bad" lyrics if the overall song is good.

 

I think the real question is about the digital artwork, is it a placeholder or is it just supposed to be a joke? Cause if it is just the joke, it better eventually switch to the vinyl cover haha

 

Very concerning that we've arrived at a place where people think everything sounds like that pop-punk pioneer MGK

I don't even think the lyrics were the worst part about that album – for me, it was the melodies and how they tried to cram so many syllables into lines in a way that made it sound so awkward and amateur.

 

The drop in songwriting from Makes Me Sick to Forever is one of the biggest regressions ever seen in the genre

MGK wrote two albums with a member of Blink and the same team of engineers and co-writers. Safe to say the pendulum is swinging back from pop-punk revival to the GOATs reestablishing their place at the top of the heap rather than "bLiNk SoUnDs LiKe MGK."

 

Okay, no more vinyl variants please.
