Probably could get sued for slander or some shit if they did, no? That’s the shitty part, the broadcast can’t address the elephant in the room even if they tried because he either settled or was exonerated in every concluded case so far

that said, they DEFINITELY don’t have to start with a positive sentiment. They could just say “Watson is not looking good and you have to question if Cleveland’s aggressive investment in him is paying off” and that’s factually true.

So many ways you could easily avoid slander in this situation. A judge brought in by the nfl found that he sexually assaulted women. He settled like 30 lawsuits. All of these things would make a slander case frivolous.
But anyway yeah I’m just so tired of the obvious rooting for him. It’s just so gross, and a slap in the face to all the women who came forward. I don’t know how you listen to Ashley Solis, who detailed how he ruined her life and career, and think yeah I’m rooting for this guy to have a great career.

It’s sad to me that Fields is a victim of hype that he had no control over

if people were just more realistic about his skillset to begin with he wouldn’t be getting TRASHED this hard. It seems a lot of Bears fans have done a total heel turn on him after overrating the shit out of him to begin with

 

I trust your opinion since you work in law. And that does infuriate me more that not one person is saying “30 settlements. 30 separate scenarios where he would rather pay money than go to court and have the facts heard by the public.”

My commentary on last night / first two weeks no one asked for

1. Matt Canada needs to obviously be fired. I understand the Steelers don't do that and they'll let him play out this year but if there's any chance of salvaging Pickett, he needs to go. I don't know who you hire but I'm sure you can find someone that's not working that could call a more competent offense.

2. OLine - Oline was supposed to be upgraded from last year but they have been getting dominated the first two weeks. Granted the Niners and Browns have good Dlines, but zero push in the run game, giving Picket absolutely no time, and just looks the same as last year despite spending a 1st round pick on a LT (and not playing him!) and upgrading the LG position and getting some depth.

3. PIckett has been awful. Where's the confidence he had down the stretch last year? I get preseason is preseason but you still have to read the field and make the throws and he looked great. He gets no help from his offensive coordinator or Oline. He looks scared in the pocket. I'm out on him until he proves otherwise.

4. Play Joey Porter Jr. Why let Levi Wallace get burned and Patrick Peterson get clowned all game when you spent essentially a first round pick on him. Great PBU early in the game and you can argue PI all you want but he was in great position on that pass at the end. Tomlins nonsense about not playing rookies has to end.

 

No one who works at a place that broadcasts NFL games is going to outright criticize Watson (especially not ESPN, which has been sucking up to the NFL even more than usual since they got Super Bowl broadcast rights). They're essentially state media for the NFL

Of course, that doesn't mean it's still gross, but it's an organizational problem more so than any one announcer

 

Hard to tell from that video but if the WR(11?) wouldve actually blocked the defender, Kenny might have had a chance.

 

49ers to Browns definitely was a rough litmus test for the offensive line. Sucks to go through the gauntlet like that right away. The silver lining is the OL might not be as bad as it looked against two of the best defensive fronts in the league.

I agree that it might finally be time to fully and not side-note criticize Tomlin’s stubbornness. Where in the past he’s been the reason the Steelers are consistently competitive… lately he’s actually possibly holding back the team rn by sitting on Canada, and not holding declining vets accountable for having to compete for their jobs.

 

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure not firing Canada (or any coach) mid-contract is a Rooney thing, not a Tomlin thing. I think the player side of things is going to work itself out in the next couple of weeks.

 

Here’s what I’ll say about Matt Canada. I only had to survive one season of Matt Patricia. Praying for my Steelers friends.

 

As much fun as it is to think about having Pat Pete on our team, it would be much more fun to watch Joey play as well or better.
