Fournette is weird though since his exact skillset is what you're looking for in a veteran signing

The fournette thing is weird because he's only 28. And was a pretty solid essentially 3rd down back last year (actual YPC sucked, but his receiving was good).

Like, the question is how did Melvin Gordon, who's even more washed, end up getting signed before him?

yeah how is he not already in Indy or Baltimore

I prefer this era of football to the gunslinger era, where literal Hall of Fame QBs like Terry Bradshaw and Joe Namath used to exclusively throw dumb deep passes, and post seasons with 48% completion percentages and more picks than TDs

Those are Blaine Gabbert / Jamarcus Russell numbers lol. As in, even before Mahomes, what the best QBs were doing back in the day is what the absolute worst QBs were doing in the late naughts / early 2010s. This league has come a LONG way.

New England worked him out and he left without a deal. Something is up for them to say no, and zero in on Zeke instead.

That said, each era did at least have one passer who was ahead of his time in terms of efficient passing despite high volume. Otto Graham, Sonny Jurgensen, Fran Tarkenton, Roger Staubach, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Steve Young, Kurt Warner, Peyton Manning in that order. So better QB play in each era was usually ushered in by a dominant predecessor

(and it’s weird as fuck to me that Bradshaw is considered on the same level as Staubach / Tarkenton, or that Elway / Aikman are as highly revered as Marino / Young, considering they played concurrently. I get that Bradshaw and Elway each won multiple super bowls, I get that Namath won the first Super Bowl, but those guys made a lot of egregious mistakes and elite weapons and defense covering that up had a lot to do with that. I’m glad we are no longer in a timeline where guts and a strong arm were highly revered even if that QB has more negative reckless plays than positive ones.)

    The rivalry is back on

I wouldn’t be upset if Fournette signed with IND but I don’t really think Fournette/Moss/Jackson moves IND out of the bottom 5 RB rooms without JT, so I’d rather them just take that money and some more money and reconcile with JT instead

I think it’s probably that Gordon took a practice squad/veteran’s minimum contract and Fournette probably wants a couple mil on the low end

Yeah, in retrospect, the practice squad thing is kind of obvious… but even then, I kind of feel like you sign Fournette, just to make JT budge on his demands

I don’t think Namath won the first Super Bowl, i think he just confidently called winning it as an underdog and did it for New York. That was enough to carry him to this hall of fame status when he didn’t win anything else in the nfl and was bad more than he was good imo
