Worst loss since 2019 week 1 also to the Packers… of course. It all feels very familiar, that was the beginning of all confidence being lost that Trubisky would ever figure it out, the beginning of his third season. And this is the beginning of Fields third season. I bailed yesterday less than halfway through the 3rd quarter.

I know this is not solace for any Bears fan, im just speaking on Fields as a player -

Even if Fields doesn’t figure it out with the Bears that doesn’t mean he can’t later in his career. They didn’t really do a good job building the team around him is the sad part. But he could do a Geno Smith or a Ryan Tannehill sorta resurgence as a future starter after being humbled on the bench for a little while if he gets signed to a team with better coaching and roster (but with better athleticism)

So here's a recap of the only game that mattered yesterday the Junior-level (U10) soccer team I coach.

Game 1: Teal (name to be voted on at practice this week) vs. Yellow (didn't catch their name)

I started Perry in goal which I was a bit nervous about, since I haven't seen him play goal before, but the kid really showed up to play. Only let one shot pass him. I started with my big front of Zavier, Maya, and Finnegan. We got off to a fast start with Finnegan and Zavier both scoring within the first couple of minutes and by the end of the first half, Zavier had a hat-trick. I put in Lucas about halfway through the half. He's never played soccer before, but I could tell from practice, that this kid has a motor. And he definitely showed up yesterday. No goals, but he is not afraid to get dirty and knock some kids around. Love to see it. Fabian had a surprise goal, after Yellow's goalkeeper tossed a ball into the back of another player, and landed right at his feet. Luckily Fabian got it in. I also had him take a PK in the first half, and he kicked it straight at the keeper. Needs to find those corners if he wants success on the stat sheet.
Second half went about the same as the first. Maya was in goal for the second half. She only let one pass her, which wasn't terrible. It wasn't really a saveable ball from her position, but she's going to need to stay in position if she wants to save those. She had a great save on a PK, and got a leaping grab at one point.

Zavier ended the game with 5 goals, Finnegan with 2, and Fabian with 1. Final score 8-2.

Onto week 2 with all the hype that money can buy.

I’d imagine the Urban Meyer era was like the Jeff Saturday era in that Sundays didn’t really matter and you were playing with house money — expect an L, kinda hope for an L, a W is an unexpected kinda nice thing

I’m excited for Colts/Texans — should be a good barometer for if IND has a chance to make a push for .500 or if it’s gonna be one of those years where wins and losses don’t really matter (because they’re mostly gonna be losses) as long as AR develops and we’ll try again next year

and probably ditto for Texans/Stroud on the other side

I’m sure Fields rushing talent will mean he’ll end up somewhere as a backup or wildcat option after they decline his fifth year option next year.

what I can’t stop dwelling on is that by all reports they really focused on the short and screen game in camp. Virtually no deep stuff. And then you saw the same thing in-game. So that means they knew all off-season they couldn’t trust Fields as a passer. But if that is true then why the hell didn’t they stay at #1 this year and take Bryce Young? And why the hell was the star WR they traded the #1 pick for only targeted TWICE??

It will be a good barometer on if the coordinators can make meaningful changes because, from this side, Slowik needs to understand he's got a rookie QB and a beatup OL... the playcalling need to be scaled back abit and not trying to do all this exotic motion shit so early on.

Where did all this offseason hype about Fields taking the leap come from? I suspected this wouldn’t be anything like a Josh Allen or Jalen Hurts situation but it seems like all we’ve heard about for months. He looks exactly the same as the last two years

I think alot of that came from them acquiring a good WR in DJ Moore, and I guess 'winning' free agency (we all know how that goes) causing media to pump up the Bears out of the gate

he did make improvements throughout the year last year, so I think with that along with year two in the same system + ostensibly more weapons and an improved offensive line (lol), there was hope. Gonna need to wait for the All-22 to see just how open the WRs were throughout the game but it felt like he went for the check down every single pass attempt. And if you know you’re going to be throwing screens all game then why is E St Brown, your best blocking WR, inactive?
