Wait, wait, wait so Jerry Finn helped Mark/Travis write some of the (+44) album? It wasn’t just the guys in the band? And people still like that album? I’ve been told ghost writers or non band member writers make the songs worse and we should look down on them. This completely ruins the whole album for me now. It’s like finding out the truth about Santa Claus, Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. I’m either going to burn the CD or just throw it away, haven’t decided yet.

I wonder if Jerry helped write some of the blink songs too…..

 

I am 100% sure using today's metrics for songwriting credit Jerry Finn woulda had credit on those early albums.

Oh absolutely. There was an interview I read years ago where Tom was talking about how Jerry helped him write “What Went Wrong” and specifically said the “kicking out fiercely” line was from Jerry. And also the Easy Target/All Of This is from Jerry’s childhood run in with Holly so he obviously had a hand in writing those songs too.

Yeah Jerry would absolutely have writing credit now. So many people do for less. Just look at Generational Divide

 

Hahaha. I love that response so much. I definitely have friends just like this. So over-the-top passionate about things that it's almost overwhelming but is still really fun to poke fun at them about.

 

I love telling my buddy that Aerosmith is better than Prince and watching him completely short circuit.

 

I don't think I ever really realized that the guys had truly started on the follow-up to Untitled at the point of the breakup. I always knew there were ideas and riffs floating around that Tom carried over to Angels and Airwaves, but I didn't know that they had actually committed to demoing stuff on the road or that Mark and Travis were basically ready to hit the studio again just a year or so after the Untitled record was released.

 

Those interviews are a big part of why I was a fuck Tom” guy for many years. Then he pulled that shit again. Like, damn. But it’s good that it seems things are patched up and the three seem to be in a great spot with each other. And you can tell Tom put in the work this time around. Excited to hear a true blink album from these three for the first time in 20 years.

 

I wonder what Blink's timeline/output would look like if Box Car Racer's album would have been made into a Blink album instead. Would Untitled still be the natural progression for them? Would it have even happened at all? Would Mark and Tom still had a falling out? +44 and AVA probably would have never happened. Would something like Neighborhoods had happened sooner, and in time for Jerry to work on it before he passed?

That's my theory on why they went back to 5 arrows. I think the guys also feel like this is the first "true" blink album since untitled.
