If this sounds like California and Nine with Tom then I am fucking HYPED

 

The album is actually called "Thomas Matthew, Matthew Thomas (Viva La Skiba)"

I told them it was a clunky title but they insisted

 

Song clips sound great, but I definitely don’t like the new smiley logo/band name wordmark as much

 

Because Neighborhoods is good, silly!

 

New album is called Dad Ranch

 

Hopefully the major difference will be that these songs are good. We will see!

 

Where does this new album rank for everyone?

 

All I’m hoping for is some pop punk bangers. familiar but not derivative. I love when legacy bands surprise with a killer album later in their career. the new rancid album is a good marker for me of a legacy band bringing the heat. nothing earth shattering but a very solid listen from start to finish. the clips and edging definitely give that impression.

 

I too can perfectly judge the production on these clips

 

I’m convinced 90% of fans saw “Feldman production bad” on the internet and just ran with it. Three of my favourite albums as a teenager were “Young & The Hopeless”, “Page Avenue” and “The Used”, still think all three sound great. Also think “California” and “Nine” sound great. Maybe I’m easily pleased, who knows.

 

My biggest knock on the Skiba records is the lack of inspired riffs. The songs (for the most part!) are good.

 

Feldy is a legend

 

I’d say this is more valid that production gripes, although I like both albums a lot, there’s not really any songs that stand out to me like earlier stuff. Although the bridge in “Bored to Death” is up there.

 

One more time is shaping up to be a quintessential blink track

 

I don't blame Feldman at all. He didn't force them at gunpoint to write bad songs, they just did anyways.

 

My only gripe really with the Feldman albums is that the lyrics at points seem undercooked even compared to other Blink releases but both albums are overhated. Nine has some great songs, and California is a fun throwback. Only release I don’t go back to much is the deluxe

 

In a perfect world, the new album sounds like TOYPAJ and Nine (for me, in 2023)

Hearing that clip of the chorus and reading those lyrics…already makes me tear up.

 

You’re not wrong! In my “liked songs” playlist! The delivery on that bridge reminds me a lot of “Bored to Death”, so makes sense!
