For reference the only actually good superhero movies that have been released post-Endgame are the following:

The Suicide Squad (2021)
The Batman (2022)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023).

Everything else was either bad or only gets half credit

 

After Endgame I'm just completely apathetic towards the MCU. I've watched all but GOTG3 to catch up and none of them were particularly memorable, and I'm still needing to watch a couple of the shows. It is what it is.

 

Weird how you forgot Strange MoM, Birds of Prey, and Let There Be Carnage, but hey, we all make mistakes. (Honorable mention to ZSJL.)

 

…seeing that I’ve brought my list of good “Big Two” superhero movies to eight, which is still an average of two per year, lol. Still fun shit happening, just surrounded by a lot of chaff.

Too bad the list of upcoming cape movies that interest me is pretty rough, but hey, it’s been a pretty good run. At least there’s Superman and one more Spider-Verse, and The Batman continuing, and my precious Sony b-movie schlock.

 

MOM was worth it alone for establishing that Jim Halpert was ridiculously unbelievable as the smartest man

MOM was a fun movie. I have fun at Marvel movies. Pepperidge Farms remembers.

 

At this point, the MCU just needs a hard reset. Get rid of the Kang Dynasty stuff, bring on Fantastic Four or X-Men and either ignore or rework the post-Endgame characters or movies that didn't work. I know that's a very typical nerd suggestion, but they need something that will give it juice.

 

Got a great idea. How about they don't do that? That way they don't upset the majority of people who actually are okay with the current run of movies in favor of a vocal minority who probably would still not enjoy the end result?

 

So that Flash movie was just okay, huh?

 

I'm fine with either way. I'm not trying to fantasy book a "Re-write 'The Last Jedi'" situation.

 

Are they? They've been the least successful critically, financially, and fan reviewed movies (and TV shows) and Disney itself is trying to sell off parts of its business to stay afloat.

 

Not to mention they built the future of the MCU around a guy accused of domestic abuse.

 

I mean, they're still consistently in the top ten highest grossing movies per year. Ant-Man is the seventh highest-grossing this year so far.

I don't know how that translates in terms of financial success or whatever Disney might be going through, but I have a hard time believing that they're in any kind of trouble unless they're counting on every film doing Infinity War numbers.

The beauty of the current plot about the Multiverse is that it's very easy to write Majors out and replace him with someone else.

 

Sorry, the only good Marvel movies on the horizon are Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web.

All I want is genre schlock based on my favorite comic book blorbos, starring very sexy people.

Letting go of how connected the universe is and giving directors more room to put their personal stamp is the move. The guardians trilogy is the best batch of MCU movies because Gunn was able to actually write and direct. The stuff that works in the Black Panther movies is when Coogler is allowed to cook and not be bogged down by factory pre-vis sequences or interconnected universe nonsense

 

I find it funny how the MCU walked headfirst into the notorious problem that has been plaguing big two comics basically since their inception.

Building a shared universe is fun at the beginning but there comes a point where the stories become less accessible to newer audiences and the weight of the shared universe begins to bog everything down.

Instead of trying to plan for that, Feige and co. just closed their eyes and went for it. I am eagerly awaiting the MCU Ultimate Universe.

Totally agree. But I still think you would need to undo a lot of what this phase did to establish that the new movies are singular installments and not all building to a collective thing.

 

I think you could just abandon all the Kang bullshit and the general public wouldn't care or even realize it

Which Marvel phase is gonna revolve around Miracle Man, New Universe, and CrossGen? That’s what I wanna know.

 

Is Metacritic reliable? I see the score for Captain Marvel and I wonder if that's from incels slamming review bombs.

I dunno, the CinemaScore, when you think about the actual numbers, still doesn't seem bad to me. You've got mostly everything graded 85% or above, except for Eternals and Quantumania.

 

Shang Chi was a big moment for me, even tho Simu Liu and Awkwafina can be kinda dumb irl. Also Eternals having Gemma Chan and Kumail Nanjiani. Also very excited for Marvels. There's more diverse representation in the MCU than there ever was

Phase Four introduced Iman Vellani, Xochitl Gomez, Hailee Steinfeld, Florence Pugh, Kathryn Newton, and Dominique Thorne. I personally can't wait to see what the future holds for them in the franchise.

Maybe after Endgame, in a post-covid world where films hit streaming within just a few months of their theatrical release, superhero films aren't making a ton of money. And yeah, maybe some of these movies just aren't very "good." I'm still having a blast
