Are you like me and you try and only buy the deluxe versions because they typically have bonus songs you don't want to miss out on? Or are you more likely to get the standard version because that's the tracklist that the artist intended?

 

There's one artist in particular that I follow who releases tons of "singles" and then like 9 months later is like "my new album comes out on Friday!"......then it turns out to just be all of those previously released singles grouped together plus one or two new tracks. haha.

 

Ah yes... The "waterfall" strategy

A lot of artists are doing that. It gives each song the spotlight for a little bit, rather than just having 2 or 3 singles and not getting as many plays on non-singles.

 

Ha, I didn't know it had this particular name, but I assumed that was the point of doing it that way! I just hate it because I'm dumb and stuck in the 90s and don't like change.

 

Any program directors out there that can back up this dude's claims?

Well, I don't actually buy albums period; I listen on Spotify.

But as for which I listen to, I think it varies and probably depends on which I hear first and artist intent.

Like, if a deluxe drops same day as the original, I take that to mean the deluxe is the real album, like Neighborhoods.

But if a deluxe drops six months to a year later, I'll probably listen to the original album as is and the extra stuff separately.

Like, I consider Heartwork II to be a whole new album of the new tracks, and listen to it separately from the original Heartwork.

Next Friday makes complete sense. Update the stall early next week to start the countdown for a Friday announcement/premiere.

 

Well.. now that we know it is in the hands of radio maybe we get a leak!

 

I still think we might be getting two songs. One this Friday, one next Friday but that could be overly optimistic. Would also shut up all the fans who have been complaining about lack of updates/nothing coming.

 

Another counter to the KROQ tomorrow theory (just in case my buddy is just throwing me off the trail). A 10am PST radio premier is pretty pointless... they want to drive listening to either morning show or PM drive time - 10am is a throwaway hour. They would also be teasing the hell out of it all day today - if they don't mention anything about it this morning.. it ain't happening.
