Listening to the Cartel - S/T records (which are slightly warped, grrr). My wife yells from the other room, “Who is this? It’s really good.” I just sighed. Thinking back, they deserved better. All of their albums (outside of Chroma) are really good IMO. There was an unnecessary amount of hate for this album in particular.

  7. The stuff in Where Are Your Boys Tonight about the bubble was some good insight on how they now know they shouldn't have done that. Haha.

I sometimes think the bubble was a real jumping the shark moment for the scene, but I totally understand why Cartel would have done it at the time. I'm certain I didn't fully grasp the surreality or kitschiness at the time.

To be fair, I don’t remember much about the bubble besides Wyclef Jean visiting them.

I meant, we know that Chroma is awesome, but the other albums were seen as not living up to the hype I think.

  16. Goootcha. I can see it that way now. For a minute I thought you meant all of their albums are good except for Chroma. Was about to point you in the way of the Bad Opinions thread! Haha

having only purchased the [Untitled] boxset, it's tempting to acquire the Pale Horses one, but then the completionist in me would want to buy all of the boxsets, and as a PhD student with a minimal stipend, i can't justify that, lmao. might pick up the standard versions of it and Appendix separately. we'll see...

There are debut albums, and then there's Pretty Hate Machine.

despite the fact that PHM is my least-favorite NIN album, it holds up surprisingly well
