Life will grow you a big red rose
Then rip it from beneath your nose
Run it through the pressure machine
And spit you out a name tag memory

One of my absolute favorite verses and moments from that record as it then crescendoes into the violin. Always gets me. “Spit you out a name tag memory” is just so wistful.

I was getting all ready to go to bat for "Carry Me Home" because I definitely think that one is album material and should have made the cut, but everyone sorta beat me to the punch. "Prize Fighter" is right where it belongs as a b-side in regards to that album though. It could've maybe worked on an album like Day & Age, or possibly WW like someone else said, but I don't even think it's that good really so I think it's perfect as a b-side.

"Pressure Machine" the song is absolutely one of my favorite things they've ever done. The lyrics, the music, the whole feel - everything about it is just perfection.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

first time I heard that and the violin chorus came in instead of Flowers I was full on crying. it's like there's something to say too big for words there so he just lets the music talk for him. idk how to describe it but it's a fucking gutpunch every time

It is definitely funny that we're debating the timelessness (or lack thereof) of a lyric about a cellphone while discussing a band who, in one of their most well-known and well-loved songs, sings about a a boyfriend, who looked like a girlfriend, that I had in February of last year.

Pretty sure I remember us having this same conversation back in 2012 on AP about the cellphone line lol

I just never understood why THAT line was the Killers lyric that seemed to draw the biggest complaints haha

It's funny to me that the cell phone line in "Here With Me" is so contentious, because the lyric or words from that album that stuck out to me as too clunky and cheesy to a degree that I struggled to enjoy was the phrase "Miss Atomic Bomb". I noticed the cell phone lyric as being cheesy and on-the-nose, but I mean it's a Killers song and he sings funny and odd things sometimes, like the aforementioned by Craig boyfriend/girlfriend line, and "Are we human, or are we dancer?" The phrase "Miss Atomic Bomb" was too much for me back then, but in the intervening years I've grown to love and appreciate the song.

“He's with the hippie in the park, combing over the dark
Just trying to get some of that little girl-play”

this is from my favorite killers song. it’s absolutely horrible. “cell phone” line is literary in comparison

I was rereading this thread and I had no idea Aaron made the same dumb joke as me on the page before my post. Now that I'm exposed as nothing more than a hack, it's time for me to go walk into the ocean.

But before I go, remember this: flip phones forever.

My spouse and I have a joke which is (in an endearing way) Brandon’s lyrics and vocals are like if an alien was pretending to be a human being. A lot of his lyrics and vocal stylings at times are just a little…off kilter and I love that about him. He’s far more interesting than a lot of other contemporary artists

  16. The video for "boy" is literally him hamming it up like no rockstar has in 20 years, incredible stuff

Yea as much as I love the solid story telling on Pressure Machine I love Brandon’s weirder/slightly off lines. I get why they’re criticized but it kinda adds to it for me. “I’ll be your life guard” from ITM was a recent stand out Brandon moment lol

Also “small town, only diesels dance…” just a line only Brandon would write

I just don't really understand why someone who doesn't like cheese would even like the Killers in the first place

Yup…also why I’ve always been a bigger Dan Andriano fan than Matt Skiba. Dan always brings the best cheese

Need this band to have the courage to do a tour where they play PM the whole way through.
