Side note: Am I off in seeing terfdom as being a pervasive issue in UK culture? Is there a history behind it or is my view skewed because JK is the most newsworthy one?

Not gonna pretend individual choices are 100% meaningless, but like… I think it’s pretty clear that the people most responsible are the people with the most real power. Fixating on a fan with friendship bracelets driving their car to a stadium concert feels kinda “whataboutism” to me.

 

Doesn’t the actual data say her jets flew from Nashville to cities where she had shows the morning of the shows, and flew from cities she had shows the night of the shows to Nashville? Theoretically she may not be on the planes but I struggle to see where you’re seeing anything that concretely disproves the specific claim. Regardless, the issue is all the carbon emissions coming from how much her two planes are used, which is a lot.

 

I saw actual flight logs on Reddit that only showed her leaving after all the shows were done but obviously I can’t find them anymore lol

My whole point from the very beginning is that it is silly to paint her as the face of private aviation because her name is on two jets when others are flying just as much or more but they aren’t able to be kept track of…that’s all. I was never trying to defend a billionaire for being a billionaire, it just bothers me that no one else is being held accountable. There are much bigger assholes flying around.

i mean to be fair i wasnt just jumping down your throat, the entire discussion about it is pointless and idiotic. does it suck that rich people use private jets to go to doctor appointments? yes, it does. but, how are we or anyone to hold anybody accountable for choosing to fly privately when they can afford to? as if none of us would do it if we were billionaires lol lets just be honest with ourselves for 30 seconds.

 

Tbh I know the thread is called “accountability” but that concept isn’t a goal of anything I posted. Just wanted to bring up how impactful private flight is on the climate and Taylor Swift is a public example of how rich people are so much more impactful than others. I do still believe private flight should be reduced to almost nothing if not outright banned:

I don't think anyone is actually making fun of you specifically. Just the general idea of how silly it is to be defending a billionaire that probably could absolutely be doing more things to be better for the environment.

No. Fossil fuel and petrochemical companies are responsible, there are people that can be held accountable.
However, one of the next biggest growing problems though is rich people taking private jets, with private flights quadrupling just from 2020 to 2022 and causing over 5 million tons of co2 emissions in 2022 alone. This is more than many countries! The biggest problem with this is that it’s a large growing problem, we need be reducing emissions everywhere and rich people on private flights are growing at a huge and very significant rate. Rich people should get called out for frivolous private flights imo

 

I'd like to point out that not everyone that disagrees with you is a man & generally I don't believe people are making fun of you but pushing back against your arguments which are not particularly good ones.
