I've been following the fallout of this on another forum and it looks like she just pinned a similarly minsinformed transphobic comment on her latest Instagram post. Her fans have been waiting for her to clarify or just, you know, address the initial post, for days yet she decides to hide behind someone else. So disappointing

 

Dead to me. Been a fan since she started her solo career. Fuck this.

BETTER LOVERS ALBUM ARTWORK
I know I am a bit late considering this album came out a month ago, but I just looked up Better Lovers and am utterly shocked at the album artwork. It looks like anti-black imagery to me. Am I wrong here? Like how has no one called them out for this?

 

What is happening here

They appear to be dark green watercolor people to me, and knowing the people in the band, I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt lol

 

totally not important in the grand scheme of things or this thread, but I see a little bit of green above the eyes and the rest looks black to me which makes me wonder if I’m going color blind (is that even a thing?) and I literally yesterday was losing my mind at work over some images we had done that everyone was calling “blue” and all I saw was green and everyone I asked saw blue too so my eyes are shot apparently lol

 

Tbf it's a very dark green that bleeds into black and I have my laptop brightness all the way up because I was watching a movie lol

Don't get me wrong, I can see it now that it's been brought to my attention, it just wouldn't have been my first thought and the ETID guys are historically anti-racist, so...I don't think that's it

I think that this take needs a bit more details.

If it's a blackface thing, I can understand the concept behind suggesting this but I just see a high contrast between the black and red.

If only the heads were black, but it's more like silhouettes with some features added. They aren't wearing clothing either. Just feels like an artistic choice to me.

 

Thank you for asking for more detail. If you google old racist art and look at the images, they seem really close to this Better Lovers artwork to me. Dark figures, exaggerated expressions, contorted bodies, bright red lips, and bright white eyes. Out of all the contrasting colors to choose from, choosing black and red seems like a poor choice to me. I understand people think it's abstract, but it is definitely a body with a heart, eyes, nose and mouth. No denying that's a person and making that person a dark color with bright red lips ... it just invokes a very uncomfortable feeling for me. And NOT in a "this artwork is abstract and makes me feel weird way."

 

That's fair. I don't think the intent is there, but I know that doesn't matter nearly as much as how it makes someone feel.

 

I hadn't seen the album cover before the post in this thread, then I went to look at it and went "hmmmmmm"

I can definitely see where it could make someone feel uncomfortable.

 

I know Taylor Swift’s private jets emissions was a topic of discussion in here in the past.

I still feel like she doesn’t need two jets, like her parents/brother are not famous really at all and can easily fly commercial IMHO (assuming they are on the second jet, which the subreddit claims is the case), especially since her dancers fly commercial to each show, but at least the numbers aren’t as bad as when she wasn’t touring.

 

Private air travel should be abolished but it is funny imagining Taylor Swift and her team figuring out how to positively spin frequent use of her private plane(s)

 

Celebrities and rich people are constantly flying private, it’s so obnoxious that Taylor is the only one who gets reported on because she’s one of the few who actually own their own aircraft.

 

I think she got shit for it because it was reported she was literally number 1 in carbon emissions output for one person

and I’m glad she did get shit for it because it looks like it worked and people should get shit if they’re taking cross country private flights to go home after a show instead of just staying in a hotel

 

I’m aware of all that, my point is there is no way to calculate Justin Bieber or Drake’s numbers because they don’t own their own planes when they are surely flying a similar amount.

 

Finally some good news

 

I think she also got shit because her teams defense was she was loaning out the jet to others when she wasn’t touring, which isn’t necessary. Now that she’s on tour she’s not loaning it out but still letting family use the second jet which is unnecessary.

There’s discussion in the Taylor subreddit about how she* could fly commercial because there’s special areas/terminals for celebrities and those people can be the last to board the plane, be in first class, and then be the first to exit the plane onto the tarmac into a car or something. I don’t know how logical that is, but I’ve seen quite a number of people being it up as a possibility.

i don't think there is any world where taylor swift is flying commercial in 2023 when she can't even attend a friend's wedding without her fans literally mobbing the area.
