  1. Well, at this point, I like most of FOAM a lot more than this... I'd also take Hilary Duff's Metamorphosis album over any Bruce Springsteen song. I never said I had a good brain. I just like what I like, and I'm not sorry about it. #beyourself #liveyourtruth #guiltlesspleasures #fuckthehaters

No but it’s just like… if you like Green Day at all, how are you just listening to a record for the first time 7 years after its release but listened to FOAM right away? What happened there haha

  3. Green Day's never been a band where I listen to everything they put out.
I didn't like the singles I heard from Revolution Radio, so I didn't check the album out.

Don't venture into Brad's mind. He didn't listen to Does This Look Infected or Chuck until this year

Ok mayyyybe I'd take "Secret Garden" over most of that album, but STILL... I borderline can't stand Bruce Springsteen haha. I like that song's vibe.

Listen to Dookie for the first time and compare it to FOAM.

  16. I was very into Green Day until the album after American Idiot was coming out. I'd actually say American Idiot is when I started to not care anymore. Dookie is better than FOAM though, haha.

  17. Some of the comments on their Nimrod shirt post are so fucking funny! "Stay out of politics!" "I wish I could remove my Green Day tattoo..." etc.

The thought of a trump supporter with a green day tattoo just absolutely seething over this is extremely funny to me

it never ceases to amaze me how lifelong fans of Green Day, Pearl Jam, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN and so on are just so frothing-at-the-mouth aghast and offended whenever these bands "go political."

I don't understand the cognitive dissonance required to listen to these songs for decades and just have ZERO awareness whatsoever what they're actually about. it's surreal, and always amazes me.

I kinda get how that could happen with certain artists. With the way Eddie Vedder sings and how he frames/positions things in songs if you only listen to the radio singles and don't look up the lyrics, read any interviews or pay attention to news stories? You might not have any idea what any of those songs are about.

Similarly, with somebody like Bruce Springsteen or, say, the Dropkick Murphys, I think you could probably get by not realizing it either if you're passive enough. Because a lot of the songs are pretty apolitical (not really, but if you aren't thinking apolitically they would be) and focused more on everyday stories, the working person or whatever. Brought the Murphys up because Ken Casey was on a podcast recently and he was asked about it. His response was basically like: "LOL I don't want those fans, I hope they never listen to my band again."

Green Day is where you start getting into the "c'mon dude, really? How did you miss that?" territory for me. But where it gets even worse and more confusing for me is when people are saying it about Bad Religion, Rise Against, NOFX, Pennywise and the like where it's really truly eye-rolly and confusing because of how blatant it is. And usually in the choruses of the songs.

It makes more sense when you consider completely blocking out the meaning of the music/words/story is literally the only way for some people to happily enjoy good artistic content. Still very weird to think about adults not knowing what RATM are about tho.
