lol. ok fair point. it's been timeless for the last 11 years out of the 250,000 we've been a species.

So would it be better if he said phone instead of cell phone? Phones were only invented 150 years ago or so, so that can't be timeless either because there's been plenty of time where they haven't existed. Lol I'm just messing with you, but the point is you can argue the "timeless" things with like literally any reference to anything in society other than I guess tables and chairs and shit. By the way when I hear artists reference "CDs" in older songs I chuckle every time.

invention timelines aside, it's just a clunky lyric and it makes me laugh. It's supposed to be this sappy sorrowful track but all I can picture is BF staring at an iPhone (5?) with a long face while he's staying in a high end, tricked out, Vegas hotel room and wearing an expensive, tailored, and brightly colored suit.

same thing on CD's btw. haha

also, WTF is going on with BB album cover? has anyone addressed that? A horse is about to get obliterated by a car and we're supposed to be impressed?

I dunno, the Industrial Revolution? Lol

Reminds me a bit of the video for this (admittedly awesome) song:

At the start I wondered whether there was some kind of ironic bent to it then eventually realised no, it’s literally a bunch of stereotypically macho stuff Jack White thinks is cool

The Getting By III is my favourite, would love to hear an album in that dark, eerie vein. But the main version fits Pressure Machine better.

I don’t like the other Runaway Horses though, far less satisfying melodies than the original to my ear. That moment when Phoebe’s voice gets a little higher in the mix during “Some you’ll surely forget / and some that you never will”? Chef’s kiss.

Changing the subject again, very little in the Killers’ discography outrocks Move Away

Yeah, I know a lot of people love the original RH on the album, but I can't even make it all the way through that version. It's excruciatingly boring. I'm a big fan of Phoebe Bridgers too, but weirdly lately I tend to never like when she's featured on other people's songs, like the 2 songs on The National's First Two Pages of Frankenstein.

Runaway Horses II is way better for sure

Battle Born? More like Battle Bored.

I'm kidding, I like the album, please don't hurt me.

Yeah fuck the cell phone lyric, how can I identify with that shit? I still use a rotary phone hooked up to a landline. Or I walk to the payphone down the road

Battle Born still rules, and I think most of the album succeeds in exploring these questions of time and aging, tradition, the need to evolve-- but Here With Me's chorus is where it just flat out doesn't work for me. I've probably said it in here a hundred times, but the juxtaposition of how old school and maudlin the rest of that song sounds with such a modern allusion is just a bridge too far for me.

    Bureau was right there!

Another favorite moment of mine from Battle Born is this whole sequence:

We'd find ourselves a place, we belong in this forever
Ain't that what it's all about?
Make the promise and keep it
    Come hell or high water
    We'd figure it out

It was the night, it was the moon
It was the green grass in the garden
    The victory and the sin
I know you're weary, look at me
    Flailing in the corner
    Here's the towel
    Go on, throw it in

It was a matter of time
Can't you see that it's tearing me up inside?
Look what's laying at our feet
That's the wreckage of broken dreams
    And burned out halos
And it's here on our street

  16. Mythbusters would have solved this in half an hour. Never forget what they took from you.

Sometimes I wonder if Battle Born would’ve been better received if they took the two bonus tracks and used those instead of a couple of duds on the record. I think Carry Me Home and Prize Fighter are great songs that might’ve worked well on the main record.

I like everything on the album way more than either of those bonus tracks. Clear b-sides, IMO.

Now, if they'd kept it in the oven for another year and "Just Another Girl" and "Shot at the Night" were on there, maybe.

Again, I've probably said this before, but I've really fallen in love with this tracklist for Battle Born:

    1. Flesh and Bone
    2. Runaways
    3. The Way It Was
    4. A Matter of Time
    5. Miss Atomic Bomb
    6. The Rising Tide (with a shortened intro)
    7. Carry Me Home
    8. From Here on Out
    9. Be Still
    10. Battle Born

That would probably be in the running for my favorite Killers album.

I've made my feelings on Here With Me clear, Deadlines and Heart of a Girl are both solid, but I don't think I'd have any hard feelings if they were the bonus tracks in this scenario.

I like this, I think Carry Me Home is album material for sure. And this shortened track listing works great!

Go away with your b-sides opinion, Craig :P
