I’ve seen some reviews complaining that this show has homework if you didn’t watch Rebels. And honestly, fuck them, they need to watch Rebels. Not because of this show, but because it’s great all on its own. It’s been done for like 5 years. Get with it.

I think we will need to accept that while Rosario is doing good overall, her voice is just not going to tingle our ears as Ahsoka the way Ashley Eckstein does. I think Ashley just has a bit more warmth to her voice that you can’t just mimic. Or Rosario isn’t able to, I don’t know. I may be even describing it wrong, but I think anyone who watched Clone Wars/Rebels/Tales of the Jedi know what I’m trying to explain.

I can’t wait to catch up with Ezra. It’s time to bring him home.

I agree with you on this point. Why does every series need to be accessible to newcomers? I think we should be able to get a good mix of those as well as stuff that's more for hardcore fans that follow everything without holding it against the latter

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

yeah this version of Ahsoka is kinda an energy drain on-screen honestly. obviously she wasn't a hyperactive quip machine on Rebels like the early days but she was still a very animated (ha) and vibrant character. Dawson is a good actor so I don't know why they've decided to have her speak every line incredibly slowly with her arms crossed with minimal intonation, it's a very odd choice

MEW is pitch perfect as Hera for sure though

  4. Agree that some of the dialog back-and-forth is painfully slow.

It's fine if they want to make a sequel to the Rebels series. The show just wasn't marketed that way though, so I get people's grievances with that. I think they fill you enough that it's fine.

    Also, I've started Rebels.

The marketing showed us multiple Rebels characters and showed us Thrawn who has only appeared in Rebels so far. The only other thing they could have done was call it Rebels season 5, but they didn’t for obvious reasons.

  6. Thrawn was mentioned in Mando by Ahsoka, who's first live action appearance was also in Mando. There's a movie being developed where all the live action shows' characters intersect. That's how I'm approaching this show, and I'm sure the same goes for a lot of the audience.

Ultimately, the people behind the Mandoverse view the movies and the shows, both animated and live action, as one story. If “a lot” of the audience chooses to ignore portions of that, that’s on them. people can watch whatever they want. But I just don’t see why the show should cater to those who only watch live action. It’s all Star Wars. Except the Resistance show. Everyone can skip that.

Exactly. No need to ever revisit it.

Honestly if you didn’t know Rebels existed, which isn’t that crazy, you wouldn’t have any idea to go back and watch it based on how this show was marketed.

I was actually surprised Disney+ didn’t have a call out to check out Rebels ahead of the premier until like two days beforehand haha

I'm pretty sure on Disney+ it had recommended episodes to watch before Ahsoka came out, similar to how I think they did for Mando and Obi Wan

And I feel like this did enough in these 2 episodes to do a quick introductions to the main characters and knowing that they have a history together and to get the understanding of the story and what this season will be. There is a lot of history lost out and fun things to see missed by not watching Rebels but it is not absolutely required viewing. If nothing else, this show might get more people to check out Rebels

  12. Disney could have put together a five minute primer or whatever but I think the show did a good enough job to introduce the characters and leave some intrigue to get people to check out rebels.

But making everything connected and requiring people to view hours upon hours of content to see something new needs to stop.

I’ve watched half a season of rebels and it’s fine.

  14. It's clearly marketed towards Mando-verse fans and casuals as well, so I don't think Rebels is required viewing, but there's probably a lot of context that Rebels fans will catch that others won't. My Disney+ app did have a row of what looked like all the Ahsoka eps from Clone Wars, which was nice to see.

edit: here it is. Also, I guess all I use Disney+ for is Star Wars because that's all they recommend for me lol.

Right, I agree and think it’s fine. I’m more so bumping on Greg’s “if you haven’t watched rebels by now sucks to suck” energy when…it’s a pretty obscure part of the Star Wars universe that a huge portion of the people they’re pushing this show to haven’t heard of.

So if there’s some “wouldn’t suck to know the back story here” comments, that’s understandable.

Star Wars fan is hated for thinking other Star Wars fans should watch Star Wars. More at 11.

Rebels starts off a bit rough but it is absolutely worth the ride. Each season gets better both in terms of quality and story, tons of great lore… The Ghost crew becomes instant favorites by the time the show is done, and the fact we’re getting them back in live action format is such a treat.

If you limit the audience to only people who have seen all of Rebels, the show tanks and is cancelled.

It’s a good thing that more than just the most devoted star wars fans watch this show, and I’m glad they’re doing a good enough job making the dynamics clear even if they don’t have the full backstory explained.

I like what i’ve seen of Rebels so far, but I understand why a lot of people haven’t seen it.

    Oh, I understand. I understand they’re fools.

I’m being hyperbolic at this point, but I really do understand why many didn’t watch. No time like the present to catch up though!
