Last year's hurricane devastated the hotels I do IT for, and I keep joking that it would be really funny (not ha-ha funny, but funny) if all our still ongoing rebuilding went sideways from another hurricane this year.

I regret this.

 

In Florida that basically sounds like what the next century is going to look like

 

One of the many reasons I am moving out of this hellhole state. I just need another month or so. Pivot west!

 

I wonder how many FL folks already decided that this storm was created by liberals

 

"Try to buy a house in cash" is about as helpful of financial advice as "be born rich" or "have a big trust fund".

"Try not to ever overdraft any of your accounts - if you're ever at risk of doing so, take a bunch of money out of your trust fund and transfer it to any of your accounts that are getting a little bit low."

 

On one hand they're kinda funny, but then also they just reinforce the idea that anyone struggling financially is financially illiterate / too stupid to make their little bit of money work.

 

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that financial literacy education is all but proven NOT to work to lift people out of poverty, and anecdotally speaking the poorest people I know and have known (including my parents when I was a kid) are among the most financially literate. They know exactly what to do to stretch each dollar, strategically pay and not pay bills, etc.

But it remains true that the best way to not have money problems is to have enough money where the mistakes you make with it don't really matter.
