Also living in Chicago but grew up in Cleveland and here for the pizza talk. Tavern style is def the preferred local choice here. I've only had Pequod's pan/deep dish style. My favorite spots for tavern style are Michael's in Buena Park and Side Street Saloon in Lakeview. There is a place in Roger's Park that we have been meaning to try, but haven't made it to yet. My favorite pizza style overall is definitely New Haven. I like most pizza though.

 

What is new haven style pizza?

 

Its like old haven style pizza but new.

 

It's CT. Thin and crispy basically. Sally's and Frank Pepe's are the big places you will hear about.

 

ive had pizza in CT a few times. cant confirm whether or not it was ever New Haven style, but, it always sucked.

also never knew that pizza by the slice was apparently only like, a HERE thing?? i remember being in like some gastropub in san diego after a padres game, drunk as all heck, trying to order a few slices of 'za because they were advertising some good 'za on their menu and i kept getting told i had to order a pie and i was like NO i just want like 3 SLICES. ordered the whole thing anyway.

 

some places around here have it, it’s like 35-40% of places do.

They do pizza by the slice here as well, about 50/50

New Haven style is hard to find outside of its little area because the ovens they use are really old coal ovens. That style is admittedly getting a little trendy, but it's pretty hard to replicate without that kind of oven (not impossible though), so we won't see it everywhere like you do with wood fire Neopolitans.
