also Citizen's last album is so good
I feel like it is one more catchy song short of being my fav album from the last 2-3 years

"For a Walk" makes me think of Fatboy Slim

  4. Can anyone actually give me an example of a truly terrible line on the Turnover record?

  5. probably not one that you'll agree with

  6. That's not fair, give me a chance (and a reason why it is cheesy haha)!

    I'm not just a contrarian :(

When the band concieved the idea for this album, I don't think the primary emphasis was on writing hooks.

that may be so. Listening to it it just feels like they surrendered to the idea that its not always necessary whereas other band in the scene live and die by their hooks. and that the vibe they were going for musically was more important. Vocals here sometimes feel like another strange instrument with the patterns, effects, etc. Sometimes the volume on the vocals was even pretty low in the mix iirc. Theyre a better band for it. also idk their other material really.

I'm just saying I don't think it's an accident that these hooks are as strong as they are

Your father doesn't like me cause I'm not into sports
Your mother won't approve because I'm not of the cross

Anyway I like peripheral vision, I think magnolia was better, but I got really turned off to that band bc those guys are kinda scummy

I don't think this album sounds like a natural progression at all for B&C and I don't love it, but it's definitely cool as shit that they switched up their sound this much and Jon is a way better lyricist and vocalist now

I've always thought that part of what makes the Turnover so enjoyable is how obviously cheesy it is...

if I want some poetry in my music I'll listen to Dylan, thank you :P

I mean, I wouldn't describe it as cheesy (and I realize I'm in the minority there), but I agree with you that it's obviously not poetry, that's not what I ever would have expected from such a band, and I think the lyrics, being fairly simple in both subject matter and delivery, achieve what they set out to do.

I didn't mean that as a jab vs. the album, just to be clear - I like the album a lot, but it is p cheesy

also, if only the whole album lived to the opener's immense level - that is such a jam

Oh yeah I knew what you meant, I can see why most people think it's cheesy but it's never struck me that way

I like this a lot, just listened to it because I forgot it was coming out and I wanted to prepare for seeing them w Foxing this weekend. This is my take after just one listen, but I'm gonna try and make it not just a shallow read. I think this is p easily their best so far, but weirdly don't find it like "obviously" catchy just because the songs flowed into each other pretty well. I don't think it's lacking at all in hooks, but I think the whole thing is melodically pleasing so on this first listen the hooks didn't stand out to me besides the singles I was familiar with. That being said, when the songs kind of shifted a little sonically (For A Walk, Fame onwards) I was able to notice those things more. I think I like the first song and that stretch from Postcard onwards the most. I think it was really cool how layered everything is musically and is able to create something bigger, but still distinct sounding. I also like how layered the vocals are but don't find them so layered they're buried in a bad way. Like, for the most part I can only hear melodies and not lyrics, but that doesn't bother me the way it did on like Hyperview (an album I love btw, the buried vocals are my biggest gripe with it). I think they've improved with every album, where this I find interesting I kind of look at Separation as solid but generic in retrospect

The only song on here I don't dig at this point is Mediocre Love. Man that song is just one entirely unmemorable vocal melody after another

We reach for the longest shadow

Oh we doing this? PV>LWM>hyperview>EIGTH. PV is so sonically easy on the ears, I could honestly listen to it multiple times in a row and not get tired of it, love the vibe on it as well. It ran together for me for a while but songs starting sticking out. Humming was probably my favorite song from last year.

LWM is dope. Haven't listened enough to form a critical opinion, but fame is my favorite, and for a walk is the only one I'm still unsure about.

    Cody is sick too.
