I assume its a 3yr or 5yr deal where they basically take no cap hit this year...so, by that standard, they basically are buying the cap increase for the next year or two now for an elite RB.

Far sillier to have given $10+mil/yr over several years to Lazard, for example

 

The $ amount seems silly but whatever it’s a 1 year deal and not my money. If anything the Dalvin signing just means Breece is still a ways away from returning

Counterpoint: James Conner is making ~$7mil/yr this year...so, by that standard Cook is getting underpaid

 

Its more that the price tag for a mid WR (like a borderline WR2/WR3) is amazingly $10mil/yr. WR is basically the 6'9" SF/PF that could shoot 3's always got the mid-level exception in the NBA a decade ago....just an entire league that wont pay most RBs more than $5mil/yr, even if they get for 1500yds/season, but cant wait to back up the Brinks truck for a WR who does 40/600

 

Cook also has nearly 400 more career carries than Conner

Oh, I certainly wouldnt have given Cook a 3-4yr deal at that price...he's probably only got this season and maybe next in him...but Conners has a lot fewer carries because he's not a legit bell-cow, and every team he's played for knows it.
