maybe 2-8 is a bit excessively bad, but this is the most angels move of all time. mariners were the hottest team in baseball in july leading up to the deadline, the angels were already looking at a potential 3rd place at best finish in the division… the entire baseball world expected and were hoping they would sell at the deadline. now they’re looking more and more like they are doing that thing again where they spiral hard and end up missing out, except this time they’re about to lose the best player in baseball for absolutely nothing in the offseason.

not convinced it was in their best interest to keep him… they have been playing this weird game of “win now” style baseball with their roster the past 5 years and it feels like there’s just no real developmental system in place. they just bring in mediocre vets to help around their injury prone stars and i would have loved to see them commit to a rebuild for a few years starting this deadline, given now there’s 3 teams in the division safely better than them. you could argue that the mariners didn’t prove they were better, but they made the playoffs last year and had such a lethal pitching staff that it was clear they were trending up around the deadline.

oh well, you’re right- 2-8 is a bit of an excessive streak, but the team never really felt like they had a serious run in them with the roster they’re putting out there.
