awesome first purchase! classic album, i got my record player as a christmas present from my parents and thats when i started collecting more, ive definitely slowed down because i bought so many of my favorites when i first started, plus there was less people buying a decade ago so it was easier to find stuff, get stuff for cheap or on sale.

I bought Four Year Strong's Enemy of the World from Hot Topic in the summer of 2010 on a whim because it was orange and I thought it was a cool collector item. It's been all downhill from there.

i got so many records from hot topic back then, tons when they went to clearance too! my friend who worked there at the time said the company was buying more then they were selling so they stopped. but they used to have all the throwbacks! i remember finding records from silverstein, mae, hit the lights, and the bouncing souls for all under 15 bucks in clearance when they still sold in stores.

I bought my first record in 2009. It was Thrice's Alchemy Index. I didn't even have a record player lol.

But for the most part, I only bought records that were newly announced from bands that I love or are new represses of records I love. I have never purchased a used vinyl (or paid above MSRP). If I had been more proactive back then, I wouldn't have some of the holes in my collection.

But I figure the collection will fill itself out in the end. I don't feel the need to hunt anything down. I'm pretty zen about the whole thing.

I’d say age is a factor for myself, and probably many others. I’m 30. 15 years ago I was not thinking about vinyl. I wanted easy access to music on my iPod so I pirated a lot or bought CDs at shows.

Around 2016 is when I noticed a switch in my preferences to more physical media like vinyl and books.

Obviously vinyl has seen a huge increase in popularity in recent years so that explains most of it.

Yeah it could be quite the treasure trove at times, especially online. I remember getting a Chariot 7", Maylene 7" and Bayside albums that are all worth a pretty penny now.

2010, first purchase was Copeland's Beneath Medicine Tree at a show. Didn't have a record player and wasn't planning on starting a collection but when I saw that beautiful copy I couldn't resist

i agree with the age thing, im 35 so i started buying around 23 or 24, i bought cds my whole life so it was the natural progession to buy on wax too. i liked the sound of it plus all the records i grew up on were becoming readily available through (SRC, ETR, hot topic, etc)

my cd collection definitely trumps my wax collection though

Started buying records in 2014 (Rooms of the House - La Dispute was the gateway record) when I bought my first new record player (AT-LP60) but would get records from my uncle in the early 2000s that I'd play on a hand-me-down record player from my grandparents.

My cd collection isn't this impressive but convinced me to go to my parents and get them. They're just sitting in boxes.

  19. I kinda just wanna line an entire wall with just tall shelves of stuff, but instead I have various shelves of various sizes holding various things scattered around my bedroom. My mom says it's too cluttered but idk tbh I kinda like it like that haha. I heard somewhere that you have to have at least 1,000 books and things to be considered a library, and if we're considering physical media in general I've definitely surpassed that.

Bought some NFG 7" in 2008/09 but really started my collection in 2013. Cleaned up my parents collection and came across another 100+ from a family friend in 2014 that really boosted my collection.

How do these recent represses of IKSOSE3 sound? I have the tour press from 2014 and it doesn't sound great. Pretty to look at though!

Looks like my cd collection! I also had bookshelves of DVDs and Blu Ray but dumped most of them at Goodwill in the winter as they were still in boxes from when we moved in 2021 I just kept mostly horror movies / foreign films (mostly Asian horror)

Of sugar and ice I am made

I started buying records in probably 2003ish? Sing the Sorrow was the first thing I remember buying. I'd buy a few things here and there after that, but it didn't start to get serious until about 7ish years ago when I bought a house. I think I've added roughly 700 records in the last 4 years.
