I still see tons of comments on their social media posts for new shows or new music of fans being like "YEASSSASS, can't wait to see you live" or "love SA, let's go!"

Most people don't know or don't care.

I mean if you went on message boards Brand New is a pariah, but if they went on tour I guarantee they sell out in 5 seconds. Just how it is.

Say Anything however I think has really worn down a lot of their fan base and I don't think can headline a tour at this point.

Late to the convo. But yeah, acts like Say Anything and Brand New aren't big enough where their accusations get picked up by larger publications, so most fans don't catch these things.
Especially if you were fans on these bands during their heyday, that means you're probably mid/late 30s now. Throw in careers and children, and your days of scrolling through message boards are limited. To this day I still have friends who ask about why Brand New fell off the face of the earth, oblivious to all the drama.

Meanwhile everyone and their mama know about Lizzo and that banana.

  4. Brand New was picked up by Pitchfork, but I also think it was relatively early in the wake of #MeToo iirc

Yeah iirc, the Brand New stuff happened either the same month or a month after #MeToo.

I started really seeing people in the pop punk / Emo world get exiled in 2014 after the New Found Glory stuff and then Neck Deep the year after. I remember those being the first couple that really set stuff ablaze.

It’s interesting I’ll give it that. Between this and “Psyche!”, his melody writing is a lot closer to the high points of old Say Anything, but he just can’t help Bemising the shit out of it

Quite the list of contributors too, can’t tell if they’re writers or performers on the track

@gurpgork what's the list of contributors?

They're listed on the bottom of the art. Basically everyone we know to be in the band now.

Ahh ok I see, yeah that's a solid crew but it's nothing when Max is shit

I’ll admit it’s hard not to be conflicted when the songs hit this close to the way the first few albums did.

Thought I'd never enjoy another thing Max put out but genuine and it rips.

At least the new song doesn't shit the bed at the end with some unnecessary garbage

I really think this is maybe the best song he’s released since Self-Titled. It feels like he has finally managed to nail that lo-fi hip-hop influence he’s been doing for so long. It sounds like Maxim Mental, but better executed. Do both Brian and Fred sing in this song?

I just can’t find it in me to care enough to listen to this

You can hear Brian, but I don’t hear Fred in this. Fred had a small part in the last song. I’m hoping for more of both of them if there is an album.

Yea, I can’t be bothered to listen to anything else from Max at this point. Since he did that spoken word thing where he talked about Sherri’s current condition, it was too far. It was super gross and I don’t desire to even give him the .02 cents a Spotify play would give him.

From his other new song PSYCHE. I can't even remember the details he basically just slandered a family member on the back end of his song. It was really gross and unnecessary. You know people make veiled digs all the time but this was straight slander.

No. It was earlier this year. When Sherri was hospitalized and Max released like a two part rant and revealed personal stuff about Sherri. It was super gross.

Oh gosh. Can't even keep up with this crap. Just awful, just want to see people do well.

Yeah, that appears to be what this new song is about. I mean the mystery of deciphering the lyrics is kind of gone since they were so unbelievably detailed in sharing what happened, lol.

I don't really agree that this song is any good, for what it's worth
