It’s 82 in the house, we moved to the living room with our multiple fans. Cooked the steak in a skillet and then air fried nachos which worked ok.

Man the browns are so bad I remember people thinking hoyer was their franchise guy.

 

Our AC went out once when it was 105 out, then our furnace went out when it was -20, all in the same year. They were both 20+ years old and original to the house. Replaced both last year. The cost made me cry a lot but it’s insane the difference in efficiency they provide

 

Our AC has been broken this whole summer. I told the whole story in GenPol but basically we wanted to take advantage of the infrastructure bill tax credits and rebates and get a heat pump, but unfortunately the rebates aren’t ready yet. So we’re powering through with portable units. Bought 3 of them, and also had an Old window unit I storage, they do an okay job. Basically if it’s not like 93 and humid, it stays anywhere from “comfortable enough” to great.

 

so we started the process of starting to sell our house/look for a new house. We decided to wait until my wife's student loans are forgiven through PSLF, which should be by the end of the year. We live in a townhome community where basically all interior units are the same and all end units are the same (there are small differences, but for the most part they're the same layout). We're in an interior unit, and another interior unit comparable to ours (probably a tad less nice tbh) went on the market a week ago, had an open house yesterday, and is already pending sale....for $380k!!! For reference, we bought ours in 2017 for $229k lmao

We have ~$200k left on our mortgage so if we can make ~$140k or so (after all the closing costs, etc), I am going to shit a brick.

This housing market is legitimately nuts

 

I lived in a house with just window units a few years ago and it worked fine. The house was small enough that one in the living room and one in the bedroom did the trick.

 

The place we rented from 2019-2021 was an old ass house, had a gas furnace but only window units for air conditioning. In the master suite upstairs we had a window unit and one of those portable units hooked up right next to our bed. I’d have to go turn those on at 5 PM if we wanted to comfortably go to bed at 9. When we were looking at house this year, anything without central air was an immediate no lol

 

Let me hold ~$140k

 

yeah I’d never buy (another house) without AC.

 

Especially a fucking awful one at that
