my favorite moral principle is "it's fine to suspend human rights when someone is very bad"

  2. "Very bad" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there

  3. I'm not some bloodthirsty freak wishing this on people, I'm just saying I truly could not care less about that monster's well-being. I'm very comfortable with feeling that way.

Behave in inhumane ways, lose your human rights. Pretty simple.

Jesus Christ I didn’t know that’s what he did. I legitimately feel sick.

I don't believe in state-mandated execution, but yeah, not losing sleep over this guy being harmed in any way.

I would say that you should read the court documents but... Trust me, don't.

I am very comfortable on the hill of not having the moral compass of a 70s prison movie warden actually

  11. Give me literally any reason why I should care if he gets stabbed by another inmate while in prison

I'm not out here advocating for capital punishment. I'm finding it difficult, to say the least, to find any amount of sympathy or empathy for someone who did what he did. Tell me what I'm missing.

Getting on a high horse because other people don’t feel bad about an unrepentant pedo getting beaten, that’s crazy

The term virtue signaling gets thrown around so much that it's almost meaningless these days but this is the most obnoxious example I've ever seen of someone virtue signaling lmao

Let me try to explain this another way since you are all stuck on the severity of his crimes. I don't know anything about Ian Watkins really except that he committed some horrible sex crimes and used to be in a terrible band and I don't need to know more than that really.

Presumably, though, he didn't spring up out of the ground as a fully formed pedophile bent on acts of evil. Pedophilia is a sick impulse we don't understand that well but has been linked to development and upbringing, possible genetic predisposition, and other things that aren't reducible to "being a monster" or whatever. Kneejerk reactionary violence won't do anything to help future victims and the prison system (even without additional violence) does not seem to me to be a sensible route to reducing harm to minors in the future either.

Call me soft but I am more interested in understanding the Ian Watkinses of the world and how individuals whose impulses run so far afield of social norms can even be produced in the first place than I am in sounding like a hardass on the internet.

It’s also important to remember various authorities were made very aware of Watkins’ ongoing misconduct FOUR YEARS before he was finally arrested (for drugs, not the child stuff) and the police did… *checks notes* absolutely nothing

  17. you never contribute anything of substance to this thread so respectfully, I would stay out of this one.

Yeah, no. Understanding and preventing pedophilia in non-offenders? Sure. Rehabilitation even, to some extent in very specific cases, I would consider. This man was arranging to have sex with infants and joked about it weeks after his arrest. This has nothing to do with sounding hard on the internet, lol. I genuinely feel there is not a circle of hell deep enough for his actions.

If I really wanted to "get you" I'd talk about the paragraphs you're writing about a convicted pedophile, but you're doing that yourself

  25. Not giving a shit about a disgusting paedophile getting physical retribution for his crimes is fine, actually, and we should stop pretending it isn't. Celebrate it if you want. He's a monster and I won't lose sleep over this. You do the things he's done and you don't deserve sympathy.
