Can we call The Leftovers a "Lost-type" show? Cuz if so, that's right behind Lost as the #2 greatest TV show.

I did watch Flashforward and The Event but I felt like both of those tried too hard to replicate the "WTF" aspects of Lost and ignored the character development.

Yeah, and I’ll always be a little disappointed about Flashforward in particular because the concept itself was pretty neat and could have gone to a lot of interesting places, particularly because the cliffhanger ending of the season finale of the one and only season promised a future that looked way more interesting than anything season one presented us with.

Also, I love From. First several episodes, I’ll admit, are fairly rough. Too much focus on the family who, in the beginning, are easily the least interesting characters and the dialogue is rooouuugh. But as the season progresses it gets better and season two was something else entirely. The final moments of season two are one of those incredible what the fuck moments that have me very much longing for season three.

I know I posted this before, but the only good thing about “Flashforward” was Joseph Fiennes’ reading of this line. A truly terrible, charmless “Lost” rip-off with no memorable characters. You knew they were desperate when Dominic Monoghan started showing up.

I still remember the remix video (because this was back in the age of remixing every single thing that ever became a meme).

On the subject of Lost ripoffs, there was also this one:

    Sea monsters and Lake Bell.

Every single network just kept trying it back then (NBC especially). The reboot of V, Revolution, The Event, Flashforward, Invasion, Surface, Jericho, Threshold, Terra Nova (one of the biggest massive budget television failures at the time), Happy Town, maybe even Firefly, can’t forget Heroes, would probably throw Person of Interest in there, The Nine, Last Resort, Awake (which I really liked), Fringe (which survived and I loved), Day Break, Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone, Wonderfalls, Grimm, Les Revenants (which got a shitty Carlton Cuse American remake that got canned after one season), those Syfy alien mystery dramas like Defiance, Dark Matter, and Falling Skies, honestly I’d probably even include ABC’s Once Upon a Time. Still going today really with shows like Manifest, Travelers, La Brea, The Last Ship, The Rain, Y The Last Man, The I-Land, The Wilds, The Leftovers (although this one’s another Lindelof show and it’s fucking great along with Watchmen), Station Eleven which is phenomenal, Dark (which is one of the best shows ever made), and more horror oriented shows like Yellowjackets, Stranger Things, The Walking Dead, and, yeah, From.

A lot of these shows can probably be seen as outliers, but man oh man did a lot of them have that Lost high concept mystery baked into their core without bothering to give a shit about the characters surrounding it. One by one they all fell like dominoes.

Yeah guys, you need to watch Dark. Best sci fi show ever made? It was three perfect seasons.

I've been trying for years to get my girlfriend to watch, I think she'll like it, but mostly I want to re-watch. I think she's seen the pilot once or twice. Finally got her on board, we're now on episode 4. I'm of course super into it because I've only seen it once and that was a long time ago. I'm not sure if she's fully invested yet, she seems interested while we're watching and says she's getting into it, but I'll know for sure when she suggests putting on an episode of her own volition without me prodding.

Reminds me though, our neighborhood has a street fair type thing the first Friday of every month and we saw Nestor Carbonell walking down the street taking his son to compete in a fingerboard competition (lol). I was like oh shit that's Richard! and she had no idea what I was talking about so I had to explain he was the mayor in The Dark Knight, she finally got it when I said he's the guy that always looks like he's wearing eyeliner even though he's not.

On the official website, you pick the episode you’re on and it gives you a spoiler-free family tree

Not sure if it has been mentioned but i'd recommend 'Wayward Pines' as a great watch for Lost fans.

Ah, there’s another one. Felt like I’d forgotten something that I remembered watching and yeah, this was it. I think I stopped watching like two episodes into season two and never came back to it. Did it have a conclusion to the whole thing or end on another cliffhanger?

The second season definitley isn't as good as it wasn't originally planned. There was only going to be the one series but it did so well, they commissioned a second. It's well worth watching through to the end but it doesn't reach the heights of the first season.

First season of Wayward Pines was great. Season 2 was messy, but I kinda loved the conclusion

I watched these funny gamers play the Lost game. It looks terrible, but I think I might play it when I do a series run.

    It's all hell.

I've been binge watching From, and season two is such a step up from season one, which was super uneven and a bit annoying, whilst season two is weird as fuck and genuinely quite terrifying.

Also Harold Perrineau deserves his flowers. He fucking carried the first season and rules in the second, and I always thought was underutilised in Lost.

also, i guess ben and his people stole the island from widmore? the introduction of widmore and his people as the big bad did wonders for the plot of the show imo.
