Why not just start again from the beginning, the show is incredibly rewatchable

Honestly didn't really enjoy the finale and how it wrapped up the show. I guess that connects to the time jump in general and I don't really think they nailed it. The show consistently fired on all cylinders for so long, but it kinda feels like it petered out at the end with not much that wowed me.

    Die rad.

Just binged season 3 and 4 after not watching since season 2 originally ended. It was ok, not sure if I liked the time jump, but it wasn't a terrible way to do things. I'll probably catch shit for this, but I honestly did not enjoy the character of Sally at all. Especially season 3.

Sally is the second best character on the show for me.

My problem with Sally was that I definitely forgot a big part of her story before starting the last season, but that's on me for not going for a recap.

Loved her scene in the last ep of her just saying no to the guy hitting on her

Her character suffers from not having half as many comedic moments as the others

  10. Finished this last night. Very good overall, kind of a tonal nightmare which I suppose is the point and felt the comedy and drama both hit very well. Goldberg and Carrigan really shined throughout the series.

Not 100% on the ending yet, still chewing on it all. There's a shift from "people can change" to "you get what you deserve" that I don't totally love, but understand why they went that way. Wish we got a little more closure with Fuches. Would love to see Hader direct a feature.

Finally caught up so quick thoughts:

The last season showed that Bill Hader can really direct, as there were so many cool set ups / shots that kept me engaged throughout the season, but the story was a bit of a mess. I liked the broad strokes, but the pacing, and the connecting events were more miss than hit. It was well made just like the last seasons, but it was far from a strong and memorable ending, and I honestly may have been happier if Season 3 was the ending of the show as I felt that wrapped up more focused and interesting than this did.

  12. I've come around on the ending a lot, but I think the show could have benefitted from ending season four in the present and dedicating a final fifth season to the flash-forward.

I maintain the series should have faded to black the second Barry was shot in the head.

I was actually talking about this with someone yesterday, I wonder if it was ever planned as a 2-season ending broken up like that, then the network wanted just one, or if it was always planned to be this way. I tend to agree with you that it could have used more fleshing out, the 4 episodes of flash-forward did feel a bit hollow and left me wanting to know more about the characters at that point and how they got there

This is very good so far. Dark comedies are very hard to thread the needle between sincerity and absurdity but so far it is doing it well. Stephen Root brings everything up a notch.

Fourth episode. Barry brought his Marine friend to a party and made things sour with the love interest. Fonzie is making a bizarre love connection with the police officer. Fuchs is pressuring Barry to keep killing.

I stupidly started four shows around the same time (Barry, Better Things, The Leftovers, The Handmaid's Tale) and this is the golden child of the bunch.

leftovers is the best of the bunch but s1 might be the worst individual season from that group of shows that i've seen. s2 and s3 are just that good.

That is what I have heard and I will see it through but right now it is a little silly with mute cults and a messiah pedophile. The scene where the pastor wins the money but the guy follows him to the car was painfully obvious from the moment they introduced a guy with a "rebel" look at the same table.

Worth noting the Leftovers IS a silly show. It gets sillier. But it’s incredible

Barry is the best of them. Leftovers is overrated around these parts but is still very good and worth watching. Better Things is great, although I'm behind on it. Handmaid's Tale spins its wheels for forever, I gave up.
