Listen, I get why gamers are happy "I get another huge game(s) on my subscription service, yay" but at the end of the day it's just Phil Spencer and suits getting huge bonuses and Microsoft being able to do whatever they want as long as they have the money to throw around, which they do. It's just a big multi-trillion dollar company making more money. That's always a win for the average person.

Okay so I have started the game while I'm working, 30 mins so far, and it is one of the most infuriatingly difficult games I've ever played. The game keeps track of jumps and falls and I've already fallen 86 times. The control scheme feels awkward as you control the direction and strength of the jump both before the release, and can't control the direction in midair. I've fallen back to the start so many times already. If I beat this game it will be my greatest achievement in gaming.

10/10, I love it. Highly recommend for masochists or for streamers.

I haven’t really come down either side of the argument, and I probably won’t, but there are valid arguments as to why this acquisition shouldn’t be considered a problem. This is from The Economist for example. I can’t share a link because it requires a subscription so here you go.

Anyway, like I said, I’m not on any side really. I only want to point out that things like this are a lot more complicated than many people make it seem, especially in games media, which has always been bad at understanding the actual video game business.

 

Like, I don't play any act/blizz games (not a fan/sex pest company), but I just don't like seeing any consolidation (unless it's like a tiny dev that would otherwise die out), especially among publishers.

 

I don’t think it’s inherently a problem rn. There were a lot of things that came out during the trial that really showed what Sony was doing when it came down to exploiting their market power in getting preferential treatment from third party publishers instead of just outright owning them.

But a deal like this is gonna make it so both companies are more aggressive in purchasing other entities to have exclusively on their platform. It won’t stop with Activision. Sony will respond somehow and it’ll be never ending from both sides.

That said, I don't find it a particularly good article in that it doesn't do much but suggest potential issues and really doesn't offer much explanation. Not allowing this acquisition could stifle innovation? But no real explanation as to why that is. Streaming/subs don't disappear if this acquisition falls through, so like what? Just wish it went more in-depth rather than offering some potential issues but not really explaining them in any way.

 

Sony is just as bad as Microsoft and money makes the world go round so I'm curious to see who they have plans to throw money at to acquire even more exclusive deals/acquisitions.

 

Sony is definitely going to respond and most likely knows what they’re doing next, but didn’t want to do anything while the trial is going on. Most likely gonna be Square.

 

I mean I just personally would ignore The Economist.

Counterpoint: Sony already has all the square exclusives it needs. Why buy them?

Sony will definitely acquire someone though, I don't know who though because I don't pay attention to companies and how they're doing. It's a bad cycle to be in but it's not like I can stop it so that's where I'm at
