I had a little fun with my mid-year list this year because there were some albums that have dominated my listening over the first half of the year that don’t fit into the tradional new release mold. There’s a re-recording of a classic, a bootleg, and an acoustic album of one of my favorite relases of last year. But, this is a snapshot of the music I’ve spent the most time with this year and have enjoyed the most.

The Stats: For the first half of the year, I’ve listened to 1,402 albums, 692 artists, and 10,064 songs (16,329 scrobbles). My most played album of the year so far is Fall Out Boy’s So Much (For) Startdust. My most played artist so far this year is MxPx. If you’d like to follow my weekly listening habits, please subscribe to my newsletter.

So much love for the Paramore record. I’ve tried so many times to like it but it really feels like a Haley Williams solo project.

So Much for Stardust is definitely an AOTY contender for me. Exceptional record front to back.

    5. Daughter
    6. Youth Lagoon

No Fireworks at all really is pretty wild. And I say that as someone who found everything before their newest record pretty "meh"

  15. For the first time I have an ongoing list I'm updating each time there's a 2023 release I love so much I consider it an AOTY contender, and so far it looks like this:

Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You

    Paramore - This Is Why

Ava Max - Diamonds & Dancefloors

    Kelela - Raven

Spangle call Lilli line - Ampersand

Kali Uchis - Red Moon in Venus

Rebecca Black - Let Her Burn

    Skrillex - Quest for Fire

    Daughter - Stereo Mind Game

    Tim Hecker - No Highs

Avalon Emerson - & the Charm

    Snakehips - never worry

    yunè pinku - BABYLON IX

    Kesha - Gag Order

    Aural Vampire -

    Phoxjaw - notverynicecream

UJU - The Sun Is in Our Eyes

    Ehla - Pause

    Amaarae - Fountain Baby

    Night Tapes - Perfect Kindness

    8485 - Personal Protocol

    Donna Missal - Revel

It's been an interesting year for music. Not many of my faves are releasing album and if they are, these haven't been AOTY great. That means I have more opportunities to go out of my comfort zone by checking artists in other genres and who are less popular, stumbling upon hidden gems in the process.
