I’m pretty sure this was shot at around the same time as EEAAO, so like, of course Mangold didn’t think “let’s go out of our way to include the kid from Temple of Doom.”

If a filmmaker has an interesting enough pitch for a spinoff that organically includes Ke Huy Quan, though, and he’s into it… then sure, that could be fun.

Ke Huy Quan can certainly carry a spin-off, just a matter of if it feels like a natural story to tell.

An adult Short Round is probably THE character I would have the most interest in.

I think a spin off staring Helena with Short Round taking a mentor-esque role could be fun.

i think the KHQ recency bias is blinding everyone. how on earth would that be good??? lol

That’s why I said “just a matter of if it feels like a natural story to tell.”

IF the material is good and it feels justified in its existence, that character is the one I’d like to see.

KHQ is charismatic af and I’d like to see him fight Nazis or whatever.

Better than Crystal Skull, obviously no Raiders or Last Crusade, never expected that, but actually felt like Indiana Jones. Too much of the Teddy kid and they lost me once they actually went back in time. I think a lot of the chasing having to be CGI really hurts it, but also obvious why it had to be done, especially the glimpses you see of Indy running.

Also, what was with the Antonio Banderas casting, lol? And though he didn’t say much, and didn’t really have too, I loved Holbrook in this. Mads great as usual.

i kind of agree about Teddy feeling like a waste, i get he's her sidekick but they probably could have found a way to tell the exact same story without him, not a problem in any way though, he provided a few chuckles.

I didn’t mind it but people that have issues with aliens and not this make zero sense to me.

I’m not saying any Indiana jones spin-off would be good. Without Harrison Ford I don’t think it should continue. I was saying IF Disney wanted to continue then I think having someone like short round would make since to carry the mantle.

I really enjoyed this. I thought the de-aging looked good but it was jarring seeing young Harrison and hearing old Harrison since his voice has changed so much. I would have thought they’d respeecher him

That might have been what made it so bad for me. When he was in the noose the computer face looked really obvious but seeing 1980s harrison face and hearing 2023 harrison voice threwww me haha

    Much better than Crystal Skull.

    (Stephen A voice): BUT!

I think it would have been better with:

Set it back at his normal college. Leave the dial in two pieces but have it assembled in a museum back storage room because nobody cared to display it (after Marcus died, the new curator wants more items that “sell tickets” and less items that represent history).

Indy found the wax piece during an excursion by mistake, when he should have been saving his friend Basil from madness. He is mailed the other half after Basil dies, puts it together (show young Indy melting the wax) and doesn’t want anyone to see it, figuring the best thing is to hide it away from the world so it doesn’t destroy anyone the way it did his friend.

Cut out most everything from after the opener, all the way to PWB finding him and the dial at the museum. From there, it’s a chase that doesn’t take them to the bad guys working for NASA (!) all the auction/boyfriend bullshit (lol wut) or the boat shit. And Mads also got his face fucking WRECKED by that pole - give him an eyepatch or something, but with a swastika on the inside. Just have one big set piece, then pick it up as they beat the bad guys to the cave to “learn how the coordinates work,” and then fire away.

It’s a tight 90 from there and it makes more sense for the Helena relationship, as she wanted to find the thing that was so destructive in her life and meant so little to Indy, when it could have saved her own dad.

Indiana Jones And The Perfectly Cromulent Sendoff

Kinda had that same hollow mimicry as Force Awakens, but Phoebe Waller Bridge brought a lotta life. The deaging was so so so bad.

The scene that sticks with me oddly is the classroom scene, I was in it for a minute there

And too many overlong action scenes. As my mind wandered from one of the 1400 chase scenes i was thinking how these expertly realized action scenes aren’t even exciting, it’s all so familiar. The relentlessly elevating “tension” hits all the marks but its all kinda uninspired and undramatic

It’s better than Temple of Doom and Crystal Skull, but far from Raiders and Crusade.

Solid movie. Better than 2 and 4, but not as good as 1 and 3. Nice to see chase scenes that relied more on practical effects and shooting on location and not just green screen.

This was pretty silly overall. It had its moments, but it was mostly bordering on dumb (and not a dumb fun), and i dont understand that if the nazis died and that didnt change history, why was wombat so sure that Indiana staying behind would change things?
Also agreed that it was like 3 or 4 overly long action scenes. I would have liked smaller pieces vs the go big or go home moments we got. Include 2 or 3 of those, and take the time from the other, and spend it elsewhere. The chase scenes got repetitive.

I thought it was a solid movie! Doesn’t touch the original three but leaps and bounds better than 4

The tuk tuk chase scene was absolute trash - CGI looked terrible, the tuk tuk was moving waaaaaay faster than it would in real life, the dialog was idiotic, and I just found my eyeballs moving in circles constantly.

Also, how did Schmidt get hit by the pole at the end of the beginning train sequence, but somehow not die from the impact, let alone have any injuries whatsoever?

My only thought was that maybe the part that hit him was capable of moving. Heavy enough to knock him off, but not the same as a solid object. Regardless, they should have at least given him an eye patch haha

Unfortunately this film is going to bomb at the box office. Only $130 million in its worldwide opening weekend ($60 million from the US). Its budget was $300 million.
