Why does everything require no notes? I feel like I feel this expression more than I see any "notes".

 

As much as I like all their stuff, I understand this haha

 

The new song is fine. Adam’s voice, especially on the intro, is nails on the chalkboard for me. John’s parts are my favorite part of the song, and usually I’m not even much of a John fan.

 

If y’all wanna reward the band putting out boring material then go for it? I didn’t say it’s terrible - just a total snooze. I thought them taking 7 years to follow up Tidal Wave was to do something fresh and exciting. This single ain’t that at all to me. This sounds like a b-side to Tidal Wave to me.

Also, New Again isn’t my favorite TBS record (that’s WYWTB) but that album has stronger tracks than this IMO.

John’s parts are indeed good here though. Too bad it’s not utilized enough ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 

Still don’t understand how people are disagreeing with you and actually think this song is great. The best parts are John’s/the outro for sure!

seems like a pretty bold and fresh sonic reinvention to me but your boredom may vary i guess

 

I get folks being a fan of this but if anyone is scoffing at people who think this is boring then idk what to tell them…

The band could have written this a decade ago and it wouldn’t have impressed me then either.

John’s great though!

 

Pretty sure the obvious main reason it took so long was that there was a global pandemic, which threw a wrench in their lives and plans (as it did many other people’s).

Whenever a band releases a song and it's a simple title and that title is just repeated so lazily throughout the whole song, I find that boring. It's such a generic concept and does very little I find interesting.

 

I don’t think that’s the case though. The band said they were gonna take a while before the new record well before the pandemic and many musicians wrote during the pandemic thanks to the wonders of file sharing/zoom.

I would understand if the band didn’t go back on tour because of how much the pandemic impacted their lives (totally understandable) but they’ve been touring and writing for a while now so..

 

Oh then that’s all good - you can never tell on the interwebz lol

 

Is there a shorthand for the pandemic like

BC. AD. CP (Covid Pandemic). PC (Post COVID)

All I know is I'm glad they'll finally have an album out because they've owed me one for like five years now, their personal lives be damned

They’ve said repeatedly that they were planning on recording in 2020, but the pandemic messed with their plans. Which was especially hard because they work best when they’re all in the same room, and they live in different states.

I’m sure there were other factors, too, some of which might’ve likewise been affected by the pandemic. Like, maybe when things opened up they needed to prioritize playing some shows together again, for various reasons? Maybe they had to sort out new label contract stuff? Maybe there were additional personal life things we don’t know and don’t need to know?

 

Those would indeed fit on a neat tidy New Again EP with Swing and Lonely Lonely
