Gaithersburg / Rockville is a bit of a no man’s land for me, very awkward to drive over there, it feels far as fuck from everything. So I don’t know shit about what’s there food wise.

When I lived in College Park (NE DC suburb) my optometrist was in Rockville (NW DC suburb), which is near Gaithersburg and has a metro station. But it took a fucking hour and a half to take that ride, you had to go all the way into the city and then take the long ass red line like 30 miles northwest. Factor in the walk/bike to and from each metro and the wait for each train, easily 2 hours some days. And then I’d get there 15 minutes early to be seen by the optometrist 87 minutes late because they were so packed and understaffed. My eye exam took up an entire day off

So yeah I don’t really like that area lol. I mean Gaithersburg has some cute rural scenery but it’s not exactly the place to be in the DMV area

 

Just like you should never get a crabcake outside of the Chesapeake (really just Maryland) you should never get a lobster roll out of New England (really just Massachusetts and Maine)

 

Columbia, Annapolis (& both of those peninsulas including Severna Park), Ellicott City, College Park/Riverdale, Silver Spring/Takoma Park, are the sub-cities of this area between DC and Baltimore that I really like.

Do not care for Bowie/Laurel, Glen Burnie/Pasadena, or Rockville/Gaithersburg

I especially don’t like most of northern Virginia (save for the parts that have million dollar houses and I could never afford anyway) and I especially don’t like southern Maryland. So the whole south side of DC is a no for me. But the suburbs north of Baltimore are very nice and they’re closer to Philly too.

Frederick is kinda nice too if we’re talking about places an hour away from DC/Baltimore

 

Crofton / Crownsville / Millersville is a nice rural area. Ain’t shit going on over there but if you want a quiet patch of land or a big suburb-y house that’s still only a 30-60 minute drive from everything urban you could want to do in this area, that’s the spot.

 

Northern VA is total ass. All of it. Because even the nice areas are fucked for transportation/commutes.

I’m a sucker for Baltimore county. And I hadn’t considered it before your post despite doing evening trips up to Philly plenty often, but that ability is a big draw for me. Love Philly, don’t really love DC.

frederick is fine, it just isn’t enough on its own and it’s inconvenient enough to Baltimore/DC that it’s not realistic for as often as you’d need to do it.

 

What I really need to do is check Charlotte off the list. I keep waiting for a Ravens/Panthers matchup as an excuse to go but they are few and far between.

 

My car gets 50+ mpg in the summer. It's boss.
