Yeah the fees on Air BNB have definitely ruined a lot of listings for me. When the cleaning fee is 33 percent of the total rental cost it’s absolutely mind boggling. The lack of transparency with pricing and being just as/more expensive than comparable options has killed my interest in a lot of Airbnb’s. It’s still an option I pursue when traveling but it’s not a must anymore. People are absolutely stupid if they thing that’s not a bubble that’s going to pop.

I’ve also had my fair share of rentals that the hosts were absolutely lying in the listing and not available when I tried to contact them about issues. A lot of people aren’t putting the effort in their rental that used to be the norm a few years ago due the amount of morons buying up property and listing shitty rentals. At some point it’s easier to stay with a vacation rental company or hotel and you usually deal with much better customer service.

Yeah, same. It works better if you have kids so they can run around a little bit and not have to worry about disturbing the neighbors. But a hotel beats it almost every time.

 

Depends on the situation, but a lot of the time I’d rather stay at a hotel anyway. Usually cheaper overall, free breakfast, nice beds, better service, and no having to go through a check list when you leave.

Also AirBnB checkout times have become so early. I can’t remember the last one I stayed at that wasn’t 10am.

 

The only time I use Airbnb nowadays is if I’m visiting a smaller town with not a lot of hotel options. Usually people in those towns aren’t the types to have shitty rentals and if I book far out enough I can find a decent deal. They normally have cute/neat cottages that are the thing I used to love about Airbnb.

If it’s a bigger city I’m not using Airbnb Airbnb though. The last time I went up to Seattle I ended up having to get a refund and drive back to Portland because my host couldn’t be reached to help me get into the rental when the keypad was not working on a Saturday night when everywhere else was booked. I’d rather pay more to have the security of knowing I have someone to reach out to that can actually help if I have an issue with my rental

 

I also hate when the owners leave like a binder with their bio. Like, I really don’t need to see the rich assholes who live in another state that are charging me a ton to clean their house.

 

I feel the same way about AirBNB that I do about Uber, the old thing was fine and didn't need improving, hotels have food sometimes and I don't need to do my laundry while I'm on vacation or worry that there won't be soap

What I have been doing is using Airbnb to find listings and then finding their direct website.
A majority of these are either managed by groups or owned by them. Found a sick place in Hocking Hills for a few weekends out on there, then found their direct website. Saved money already because the nightly cost was cheaper on it and then because we booked within three weeks we got another 30% off. They still stick you with a garbage cleaning fee but it’s pretty much a whole ass mini house.

 

This was so incredibly good.
