Great childhood memories unlocked. This might have been my favorite NES game.

 

I hated Destiny 1 and moved on from it almost immediately. Its probably one of my most disappointing gaming moments. Never played 2.

 

I guess the more nuanced take is that they are not putting *enough* resources into destiny to satisfying the player base, which is a valid critique.

 

Is it just physical Switch games?

 

Looks like there are some digital options but the majority are physical

lmao no, I mean taking money from D2 players and instead of investing it back into the game, funding new tech to improve the player experience, expanding teams and adding staff to keep creating content, and providing players with a better game over time, they are giving all the wishlist items (dedicated servers, dedicated security team, consistent addition of new maps, etc) to Marathon and not giving D2 shit. When you're told that there is going to be a "renewed focus on PvP" and a promise of new maps and modes for one half of the game, only to deliver 1 new PvP map in 4 years, it's a little frustrating as a player. Destiny's first major expansion gave us 8 new maps for $40. Shadowkeep ($60) had 1 new pvp map and 2 reprised maps from D1. Beyond Light ($70), Witch Queen ($80), and Lightfall ($100) all shipped without any new pvp maps or modes. On top of that, their GDC talk last year talked about underdelivering on content so they don't set player expectations too high. So, it's not just using their revenues to fund their new game deveopment, which yes every study does obviously.

 

Then people should stop playing and buying their content so they can't "siphon" the money. Why support a company who doesn't support their community? As long as people keep preordering, playing and playing, they don't have to care. They got their money. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

It's obviously shitty and scummy what they're doing, but they're being completely enabled to do it.

that's what we're seeing happening now. Big D2 streamers and youtubers are taking breaks or not playing or streaming the game anymore. Longtime players (like me) are deleting the game or taking breaks until the final dlc next February. That video Dan was talking about on the terrible monetization practices of Bungie was made by probably a top 3 D2 youtubers that has been a huge supporter.

I'm just saying in response to the article about M$ almost acquiring bungie again, it's probably better they didn't. The 1 game they have on the market has a fairly negative player sentiment right now (newest expansion has a "mostly negative" on steam), there is a high "burn rate" based on M$ analysis of Destiny 2 players, and the live service tech that bungie has that Sony wants can't function properly for more than 24 hours at a time for the last several weeks. I don't see how it was a wise investment for Sony to acquire them at this point and my initial post was just saying that they dodge a bullet passing on them especially when their price was too high even for phil spencer who is a huuuuuge destiny fan.

 

Sony just thinks "Bungie is relevant and makes online games! Let's get them!" They make some bad decisions every now and then haha, especially with this Jim Ryan era.

 

Also I liked and played so so so so much Destiny 1 and I played a good chunk of Destiny 2, but it just kept getting harder to get back into, they kept removing content and so many more little annoyances that I haven't played it in forever. Like I bought the collectors edition when the game launched I was so excited. They botched it so fucking hard.
