People love “smartest man in the room” opinions / opinions that make them feel like they have exclusive knowledge because it goes against the grain

he already has the ire of Lance Zierlein lol. And I’d bet anything John Shipley (Jags beat writer for SI I believe?) knows who he is by now as well. With how many people got sports media jobs just off of being loud haters who were good at promoting themselves, I say let @CarpetElf troll sports Twitter lol. It is a remarkably smaller world than you would think considering sports is so nationally widespread

 

Like in a world where the largest and most “serious” sports journalism publication, ESPN continues to give Mel Kiper and Todd McShay and god damn Skip Bayless hours daily of air time over the entire past 3 decades, for flat out bad opinions over and over

in a world where fuckin Mike Florio can run a sports tabloid and be taken seriously

In a world where even PFF goes downhill and limited-context, nebulous formula data science models are accepted as Biblical truths in sports analysis (I roll my eyes so hard when people post an RAS score or a DVOA chart as if it objectively explains far more than it actually does)

in a world where randoms who don’t understand the most basic zone coverage concepts, who don’t understand the role timing and arc/angle plays in pass progressions, think you can just share a screenshot of Kelce finding some open field to illustrate bad coverage (which, the Jags were actually one of the better-coverage teams last year)… and that post goes viral

I really don’t think what Matt does is that bad lol. Any fuckin idiot can regurgitate or make a rhetorical guess at any dumbass thing about sports and get taken seriously these days. At least Matt actually has some substance to contribute to the football discussion community that isn’t just pseudo-math / sensationalism. Let alone, those guys actually get PAID and are still out there replying to replies lol so it’s not like they’re any less petty

 

NFL Network literally just hires ex players who have no experience with journalism and even they do a better job providing actually useful content about sports than the career talking-heads do. Like, at least Rich Eisen is fun and can make you laugh and asks good questions on his podcast lol. That’s the ceiling.

Trust me dude I’m already working on establishing Terrain as an LLC with its own business bank account, learning about how to document and write off band expenses in tax forms, and hammering out details for website design with a point of sale terminal for merch.

Also already contacting regional bands I’ve already talked with to see if I can establish strong support acts & maybe even a touring partner or two ahead of time… getting merch and posters designed, and writing lyrics to my upcoming EP as we speak.

& my next two shows in the area are pretty much planned out in terms of who I’m playing with and where, just gotta work out dates, so my efforts to locally escalate before said tours are already in motion.
