This was fun. Honestly better than it deserved to be with the production hell it was in. The Chroma scenes should have been more abstract looking to make it more away from uncanny valley, but it was cool to see some of the wilder aspects of Flash’s ability.

The end cameo is hilarious, now let’s put these characters behind us and hope for better movies on the horizon.

  2. I wasn't planning on watching this in theaters anyway because of all the Ezra bullshit but I just got spoiled that Supergirl dies. Okay, whatevs, we already knew Barry was gonna reset the timeline. But then they filmed two of three different endings and chose to go with the one where she doesn't come back at the courthouse? Instead we get George Clooney??? So, what, you introduce Sasha Calle's Kara in another character's film, hardly give her any screen time, then just kill her off? She was the only reason I had any interest in this movie at all. And Muschietti's all "But, but, multiverse! She can pop up in future projects!"Fuck that. I was gonna wait for streaming but now I won't even bother.

To be fair, if you watch the movie, it would have undermined the whole lesson that he couldn’t stop her and Keaton’s Batman from dying even if he tried a million times, which he does. Them being alive again at the courthouse would’ve made no sense.

It's wild that we have two superhero movies that came out around the same time that are on completely opposite sides of the fence about the same subject.

Flash is like "You can't save everyone" and Miles is like "Fuck that".

Also, Barry just fucked a whole timeline to basically be like oops, guess I learned something

I guess thematically in the context of this film you're right but afaik that's not how it usually works. I haven't actually read Flashpoint, only seen the DCAMU and CW versions, but when Barry un-saves his mom, people who were dead come back and things mostly revert back to the way they were before.

Which just brings up another point people are saying of most of the DCEU in general, that it's not very accessible to people who don't already know some version of the source material. Especially with something like this that's so cameo-heavy, people are like "Who's this person and why should I care? Wasn't Bruce played by someone else five minutes ago?"

While I don't want Ezra Miller to come back for a sequel (or Andy Muschietti) I do hope they keep Sasha Calle for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

  7. With Elseworlds and the DCU it seems we’ll have 2-3 Bruces for a while too right?

Joker Bruce (if he makes an appearance)
    The Batman Bruce
    DCU Bruce

Have their been rumors of a Bruce appearance in Joker? He was like 10-12yo in the first one, not sure we'd get him as Batman but maybe as a teen Bruce.

Is the guy from the '90s The Flash show in it? Because he's cool and that show rules.

I totally agree that they should keep her. She was one of my favorite parts of the movie.
    He is not

  12. does this count as fridging?

  13. I want to say it's not fridging in this case, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. I always thought of fridging as something that happens earlier in the story to motivate the protagonist to take on the antagonist. Also, the term is usually used for the protagonist's love interest, although I'm sure it can be used more broadly.

What happens in The Flash feels more in line with a dilemma that happens in another superhero movie that came out this year, although both movies seem to be giving opposite messages.

Yeah, I feel like fridging is a very specific scenario. It'd be different if Zod killed Supergirl to inspire Flash, but that's not the case at all.

I feel like “fridging” is similar to “bury your gays” & “the Bechdel test,” in that it was a useful observation about a troubling and problematic trend but was never meant to be a rule that clearly divides “good” & “bad” individual stories. Media analysis should be a lot more nuanced than that, imo.

(That’s not to say anything about this particular film, which I personally haven’t and will not see.)

Named for the "classic" storyline where Major Force killed Green Lantern's girlfriend and put her corpse in a refrigerator.

Gail Simone, who coined the term, made a website in 1999 and listed everyone in comics that was “fridged”. There’s an interesting section where male comic creators give their responses.

Finally got to see this. It was pretty good! The baby shower sequence was incredible. I’m too tired to say much more. But it was great. I want more Kara somehow.

Also, so, is it weird that they didn’t reveal who actually killed Nora?

Probably, because it's not like they'll actually get a second movie if they're intending the culprit to be Reverse-Flash.
