Spent the evening getting all the way to the spot right before the demon king, placed down my travel medallion and got the heck out of there. Time to max out as much as I can over the next however many days before I take the plunge.

Finally took a bit of time last night to knock out everything involving the Lost Woods including mapping out/lighting up the depths beneath Korok forest, healing the Great Deku tree, finding the shrines and unlocking the master sword quest.

I always dread doing anything involving the depths because it feels like nothing but constant wandering, but that said, I have been knocking out as much as I possibly can so that I can cross reference the lightroots to find the shrines on the surface. It makes it SO easy to see the hidden ones that you are missing.

I’m not surprised there is a master sword quest. But after I got the final tear, I warped to the nearby tower and just went for the sword and got it. Oops.

yup, i've found SO many shrines in caves by pinning the lightroot location on the main map and then searching that immediate area for an opening or a well.

I haven't actually gotten it yet, but what it SEEMS like to me is that the "quest" basically just pinpoints the location for you and that's really the only difference.

The quest seems to be in parallel to the story in the memories unlocked by the tears (meaning, when he marks the location for you, it makes 100% more sense if you've already found all of the geoglyphs) but obviously isn't essential to obtaining the sword, as you pointed out.

I believe if you start/complete the master sword quest that it also causes the dragon to fly lower making it easier to get to as well. But I may me misremembering what I read online

Here's a tip for people shrine hunting and / or Lightroot hunting: Every lightroot has a shrine on the surface in the same location. Meaning you can go to a lightfoot you've unlocked on the map, press up, then mark on the map with the Shrine symbol and you'll know exactly where the shrine is. The names are also backwards from the names of the lightroots which is fun.
The above is not a spoiler but a tactic that some people might now want to know about?

If you go to Akkala tower and shoot up, you’ll be way way higher than the dragon if you go right after the final tear cutscene.

Feel free to tag whatever you want to. But that tactic has been spoken about openly prior in this thread. But it’s all good.

The lightroots make it so easy too because it's blatantly obvious when you're missing one when you have a dark spot on your depths map. So it's really foolproof finding all of the (non-sky) shrines after that which is a problem I had with BotW. It was too much work after I beat Ganondorf to go back and search every corner of the map for any shrines I might have missed (I quit playing before the path tracing update was available).

I only have 8 hearts and haven’t upgraded my armor at all so I keep getting 1-shot killed lmao. I’ve done like 50 shrines though so I think I should probably do the great fairy stuff already

    What a perfect game.

It was so satisfying. I’ll go back and do random side quests and try to find all the korok seeds eventually. I’m so pleased with the story. Forever my favorite game franchise. I have no idea how they’ll make another game, but I’m ok waiting another half decade if they do.
