- Arizona waits 2 weeks to reach out, Gannon doesn’t tell the Eagles he’s leaving because he doesn’t even have formal contact of an interview yet, and then Arizona hires Gannon anyways, in which case Fangio is already gone

or

- Arizona doesn’t hire Gannon because they didn’t tamper, Gannon is still DC, and Fangio is gone

I’m not defending the way Gannon or the Cardinals handled it, but I’m also not sure how not tampering keeps Fangio in Philly

 

Because the Eagles organization can be more clear with Fangio by saying “If Gannon leaves, you’re our guy.” All indications were that Gannon told the organization he was going to stay so, as a result, the organization likely told Fangio the news that Gannon was going to stay and told him to look elsewhere if he’s interested in coaching again. I mean, the news of the Dolphins being interested and then hiring Fangio was pretty quick too. It all happened in a matter of days.

When it comes to the tampering, Howie knew the Cardinals reached out to Gannon during the playoffs. Could he have told Fangio to just sit and wait in case Gannon changed his mind and took the Cardinals job anyway? I guess, but that’s not exactly a great spot to put Fangio in because it would have meant watching more open DC positions get filled.

Again, all indications point toward Gannon telling the organization he was planning to stay, so they let Fangio take another job. Then, Howie tells Gannon to interview for the Cardinals job anyway because why not, it’s good experience if you’re going to eventually become a head coach. Then, Gannon turned his back on the organization and took the job anyway.

 

And I’ll also add that Gannon had already gotten head coaching buzz in the 2022 offseason. You say you’re not sure how Gannon not tampering would have kept Fangio in Philly. Howie and the Eagles organization aren’t stupid. If I knew Gannon got head coaching buzz after the 2021 season, then more during the 2022 season, the Eagles organization did too. Hell, they had Fangio coming out to the facility multiple times in the summer, likely preparing for the inevitability that Gannon would leave.

I firmly believe that Gannon made it clear to the organization that he was staying, which is why the let Fangio go, then changed his mind after the Super Bowl.

I also want to reiterate this about Dalvin Cook - and the Miami Dolphins drop to my dislike category if they sign him after signing Tyreek Hill. (Weird we all acknowledge Mixon is a piece of shit but never bring it up about Cook)

sucks cause I want to like them. I like Tua, their defense, their uniforms, wanted to root for Jalen Ramsey again etc… but i hate the way they run their team

maybe but it’s also valid as a neutral party to root against a team because you don’t like their players and idk if there’s a better reason to dislike a player than “they’re violent against women or children and didn’t face true consequences for their actions”
