I knocked out Imaginary Friend in like two days a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, I really didn’t like it.

 

Plodding my way through the Washington biography, been a very enjoyable read so far

 

I finished Our Share of Night and I think it may have been a masterpiece. Not only am I ordering a physical copy, but I’m strongly considering rereading it because I am sure there was plenty I didn’t pick up on. Fantastic book whose depictions of real life horror during a brutal and tumultuous political era, trauma, and violence rivals that of the paranormal. Enriquez not only taught me a lot about Argentine history, but she also references a lot of books and poets that I now must read!

 

started Pale Fire last night and it's giving me Pessoa vibes. already loving it and I haven't even started reading the poem yet

 

Almost done with part 1 of To Green Angel Tower, and Tad truly is a wordsmith. I also love that everyone in this world is a master story teller

 

I just finished Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak. Has anyone read it? My brain is jumbled. I didn’t see the twist coming at all and I really liked that because I thought it was going a totally other direction… but then after I considered the final few chapters, it’s a little absurd.

 

It’s on my list. Definitely interested

 

Let me know when you read it. I have a couple of things that kinda bugged me about it. I don’t want to say what just yet because I can’t not spoil it to talk about it, haha.

 

I enjoyed it. Some of those drawings are actually creepy haha

 

I definitely liked it and the twist caught me by surprise. Full marks for that because it’s one of the more unique twists I’ve seen in awhile. I just had a hard time believing some of the character decisions and motivations. Also I could easily tell the author is a children’s/YA writer based on dialogue and that always bugs me when adult novels are written avoiding “adult” language, haha. I also have a hard time believing Mallory couldn’t tell Teddy was a girl before that point, just given his age and being his babysitter.

 

I agree that the writing did feel pretty YA.

I'm with you on that. Feel like she should have picked up on something after all the time she spent with her

 

I had to look this book up after reading this and it looks great. Ordered it.

 

Finished a couple books in the Orphan X series. If you're looking for a good thriller, it's not a bad series to pick up. I'm someone who tends to avoid that genre but due to some work stress I just needed some good popcorn reading that didn't require a lot of mental attention. To be fair, I do think it is smarter than your average thriller novel.

I can only stray away from nonfiction for so long so back into some WWII history. I started "A Bridge Too Far" by Cornelius Ryan which documents the failed operation of Market Garden.

 

I just finished Jennette McCurdy’s memoir, “I’m Glad My Mom Died.” It was very powerful. I had to watch my mom die slowly from cancer so I fully empathized with the idea of how hard it is to deal with that. But it also really made me thankful that my mom and I had an amazing relationship, because some of the stories in that book were disturbing and sad. It’s definitely worth a read though.

 

@Donnie Ruth have you still been reading Riley Sager yearly? I’m currently reading House Across The Lake and I’m actually quite enjoying it. There hasn’t been any insane twists yet but I know it’s coming haha

 

Wow that’s funny I literally just picked that one up from my library a few days ago! I am planning on reading it soon cause we’ll be going up to a lake for Father’s Day so I figured it would be perfect timing.

Let me know what you think once you finish and I’ll do the same, the reviews were not overly positive for this one lol

 

Haha that’s awesome! I still haven’t read Survive The Night but plan to eventually.

At this point you kind of know what to expect out of these so you should temper your expectations re: reviews. For some reason I just continue to come back for more for some reason.

Side note:
I’m not sure how I feel about the new Ruth Ware book but you know I’m going to read it shortly after it comes out per usual.

 

Yeah Survive the Night was prob my least favorite, but still excited to read the House Across the Lake and will def read the newest one out this month. Already have my hold in at my library lol

Damn I actually fell off Ruth Ware. Didn’t really love One by One or Turn of the Key. Didn’t read the It Girl yet.

I also just checked and I think both Riley Sager and Ruth Ware’s new books come out on the same day this month June 20th haha

 

Just finished The House Across The Lake. A very quick read that is broken up very nicely in parts which helped imo. Overall it was decent, it was definitely something I needed to get me out of a little reading slump recently. Last 40% or so is absolutely bonkers unbelievable but that’s to be expected at this point. I definitely feel like his writing is much better with this book so I’ll keep coming back for more every year.

On a side note have you heard of/read The Enigma of Room 622?

 

Nice, I’m glad you liked it and “bonkers unbelievable” is sorta what I’ve come to expect lol, so I’m excited!

I’m currently chugging my way through Insomnia by Stephen King which is a massive slow burn, so I’m thinking I might take a breather and knock out The House Across the Lake soon.

I have not heard of that book nor have I heard of that author. You recommend? Synopsis seems wild haha

I believe it’s only Joel Dicker’s 2nd book but I couldn’t put it down despite being almost 700 pages long. I really went into it not thinking I would enjoy it but it blew me away and I loved it! Definitely some very farfetched believability there too but I definitely recommend if you enjoy mysteries in general

 

Flying through Acid For the Children by Flea. Don’t really mess with the Red Hots anymore but Californication is still good.

anyway he’s a good writer and a book/jazz nerd and the book is about his childhood/youth and not RHCP

 

Does he talk about The Wild Thornberrys?

Dennis Lehane's new novel and potentially his last one, "Small Mercies," is quite good so far. I need to dig into his other stuff as I have only read one other book of his and loved it.
