We became friends originally because of talking about football though so it has both good and bad sides in my opinion. The problem is more so how I handle arguments and I will take the lion’s share of the blame for that

Linkin Park was the best life band out the "scene" and it wasn't even close. Just incredible.

 

Best live band from the “scene” might be Thrice tbh, depends how broad or how narrow your definition of “scene” is

 

I also remember The Early November being stupid good live

Linkin Park is much better live than Thrice

Thrice is solid live, they play their stuff well. Linkin Park does a better job of doing both that and entertaining

 

They were excellent. Played 90 mins and it was a free show. So cool.

 

Word. I haven’t seen Linkin Park live but I will say I don’t really consider them a “scene” band haha, I really see them more along the lines of the mainstream rock-rap trend, like a way better version of what Limp Bizkit started haha

 

I've seen both and personally I think Linkin Park was just on another planet musically than anyone else.

 

To me calling Linkin Park a scene band is like calling 311 a scene band haha. Sure, they were on fuse and MTV2 at the same time as the pop punk we grew up on but it wasn’t the same scene imo

 

They are but they're included in like the "scene" of this website and what people who were regular APers listened to, which is why the quotations were included

 

Fair enough. I don’t really care to argue about the parameters of “scene” anyway it’s even more arbitrary than the actual genre names lol

You know who I always thought was shitty live, B**** N**

I was a huge fan of them as a teenager and for me they set the bar really low in terms of how good live performances could be. Maybe they just didn’t do well at that Baltimore venue, idk.

I remember being so bewildered that the vocals were so often off-key, shouted with no tact or tastefulness, guitar just sounded like noise / you couldn’t hear or feel the notes it was playing half the time… and then I saw other bands and I was like “shoot well maybe BN is just a more chaotic live band that focuses more on crowd energy?” And then as I saw more bands in more genres of music it became “oh no BN just sucked live almost all the times I saw them” lol

they tried so hard to be crazy like Modest Mouse and Sonic Youth are live but the execution was just not there. They were better when they just fuckin played their songs normally

 

I saw Brand New once in 2015 and they ruled

 

I almost went to their tour in support of Science Fiction but that was exactly when the news about Jesse came out so I simply moved on from them after that. I had already started preferring other styles of music more and had other favorite bands by then

 

I actually became a huge Kevin Devine fan because of how much better he was live than Jesse every time they toured together lol

 

I saw another dad at our kids soccer practice wearing a Brand New tshirt, and part of me was like "dude might be cool, maybe I'll stand near him", and the other part of me was like "still stanning Brand New?". So I stayed where I was.

 

Thrice was a band that I always thought I SHOULD like, but I could never get into them at all.

 

i mostly never fault other people for not knowing about the JL stuff. It never really gained any main news momentum outside of like, AltPress and Brooklyn vegan. If you're not Online here or were very active on their socials at that time, its highly likely you don't know about it, and i'm certainly not going to engage a complete stranger and tell them why what they like is bad.
