It’s the 12th new entry still. There’s a lot of lore to it, but to nutshell it, in MK11’s story their main protagonist was the “keeper of time” and a Titaness mother of the elder gods who came to reset the balance of good and evil after Raiden stopped playing nice and beheaded Shinnok. Raiden and Co. beat her, and Liu Kang’s sacrifice/honor had him chosen as the new fire elder god. Raiden is no longer an elder god and gave up his immortality.

Liu reset the timeline to exist without Kronika and the major evils they’ve always dealt with. To allow peace and prosperity. I think he also shattered the time glass so it couldn’t be tampered with again. So it’s like, sort of a reset to the early days of these characters lives, but with the story of previous games still existing and Liu is still the fire god he ended the last game as.

I honestly didn’t love the story myself, felt a little half assed and Kronika didn’t fit in as an MK baddie. But the game was by far the best MK ever. The amount of stuff they put in from the 96 movie will have me coming back to it till I croak.

My favorite thing about this is that I’m a huge Sunny fan and was spray-paint huffing Charlie for Halloween a few years ago. I sang Dayman until my friends couldn’t take it anymore.
