The Chiefs and the Bills are the only 2 games I say theyre definitely not winning and i wouldnt be surprised if they won one of those.

I've got them splitting Houston. Indy on paper splits but Week 1 is a tough ask for them so idk

I think "they're for sure winning these and maybe stealing these, and can't win these in any way" is a big way to fail a prediction. I think @CarpetElf's way of going "you pull 3 wins out of this quarter of the season" is a better way to look at it because there's ALWAYS outliers including things like the Bengals losing to the Jets the year they went to the Super Bowl

Easier to be like "Look at this stretch and we win 75% of it"

The AFC South is absolutely the Jags’ to lose. I think the Colts and Titans can be competent enough to not be total pushovers though from the talent that the Colts still have and from what Vrabel offers as a coach. The Texans…I need to see something before thinking they could be stingy enough, but there are reasons for optimism.

Also, I don’t think Minshew starts a single game for the Colts, barring injury. I’m expecting AR week one from how Steichen has spoken to the media about.

The mainstream media doesn’t want anyone to remember this, but the Urban Meyer-coached Jags beat the Bills in 2021

    Weird shit happens

Yup exactly, that works against the Jags this year and probably for the Jags this year as well, and it can happen enough times to shift an entire division

If the Titans trade Tannehill off. Trevor will be the most experience QB in that division.

I think Bills will be their best best out of a win from those two. The game is in London and Jags will have already been there a week since they have the back-to-back over there this season.

my main argument against JAX is that every other team had pretty dang close to a worst possible outcome season last year, JAX had a reasonably favorable season, and JAX still only finished with 9 wins. They play the hardest schedule in the division by a pretty wide margin and had pretty good injury luck last season, all things considered (Lawrence, Etienne, Kirk, and Engram all played every game last year and by my count, just about every starter on defense played 15+ games)

It’s not too hard to imagine a case where CJ Beathard has to play 3 or 4 games or Trev loses a couple of his top weapons for an extended period and we’re doing the bad supporting cast narrative again or the defense hits a point where it’s playing dudes off the street at a position or two and looks really rough and the team takes a small step back year over year

TL;DR - the NFL is random and who tf knows how a 17 game sample will play out

Calvin Ridley is a massive variable as well but I think if he's even 70% of what we've known from Calvin Ridley he's a pretty big insurance for the Jaguars. I do think they're doing a decent job at building their team in a way where they CAN have those week-to-week injuries and be okay. But yeah it all depends on what "okay" means.

I’ve been burned too many times by the guys with long times away from the league (hello Josh Gordon). The last time Calvin Ridley mattered, I was wondering whether or not Philip Rivers had enough juice for another season. I’m very much in “I’ll believe it when I see it mode” with him but generally agree that, if he’s still anywhere near a WR1 this year, yes that is a big improvement and helps them weather when something happens like Evan Engram inevitably going back to being Evan Engram and missing half the season

Yeah it's moreso a statement about the Jaguars WR room last season than a statement about Calvin Ridley still being Calvin Ridley this season, I think

I dont think you can discount either having to be in London for two weeks of the season, im surprised they didnt make more of a stink about that, seems like a tough adjustment until probably their bye in week 9.. but im probably thinking its a bigger deal than it is.

I dunno, they should obviously be favored to win the divison with what we know today, but I just think some weird shit could happen

I'm hoping Calvin returns to form. I love Kirk and Zay but Calvin at his best is an elite route runner. Every move we made it was clear we were extremely annoyed with our failures in short yardage situations
