So the age old question comes again: will Real Madrid somehow win a Champions League tie they absolutely have no business winning?

You don't have to be an athletic type to realise how much his fitness will deteriorate over an 8-month period of no professional training.

Legit surprised it took this long. Felt like the charges came out at the beginning of the season.

Apparently can start training again in 4 months, but still, that's a lot of time not training then a hell of a lot of time with no match practice.

I wonder if he'll get loaned out to maintain fitness and come back in the January window?

Good call. Aren't Brentford affiliated with some Danish team due to their owner? Whether he goes there or not is another question!

Yeah I think they might be. But it'll be interesting how it works. I feel like some bans carry over - wasn't Trippier still banned when he moved to Athletico? Might be he has to go to like Turkey or maybe even USA or something, if it's a UEFA thing?

Also, if this means he's available on a cut price deal this summer, I'd 100% want United to be all over that. It's a risk as he's missing so much time and might not come back as good, but worth a gamble. Brentford might decide they want the money for a replacement immediately.

Reminder that Suarez bit someone and got suspended for just four months, half of what Toney got for betting on some games he had nothing to do with.

Still, I can’t wait for weekend, so I can watch the relegation battle, where Everton (Stake) and Leeds (SBOTOP) take on Wolves (12bet) and West Ham (Betway).

Just remember, Toney is the one with the problem…

Nice article in the athletic about Simon Adingra following the same path Mitoma did for Brighton.

Looks like Chelsea/Boehly are purchasing a large stake in Strasbourg. Sucks for Ligue 1 and the fans in particular.

I never understood why anyone makes excuses for athletes gambling on sports they're associated with.. in any capacity... or tries to act like its hypocritical because teams have gambling sponsors. The comparison of punishments is fair (suarez vs toney), but what does advertising legal betting have to do with players being banned from gambling? It's a completely nonsensical argument... You can argue the morals of betting and advertising it so prominently to a perhaps too young and/or vulnerable audience, but why correlate a player gambling, to a team accepting a gambling sponsor as some giant act of hypocrisy?

And who cares if he had nothing to do with the games he bet on... you don't think it's possible that he could call a friend on another team and fix things that way? It's a simple rule to abide by and any player, NFL, NBA, EPL etc. has to follow it and deserves whatever punishment they get. 8 months is fine by me.

Betting advertisements are a scourge on society is the angle. Surrounding young kids and young men that generally don’t get the greatest education in the world with betting ads constantly can lead to betting addiction. I’m surprised it’s not a bigger issue especially in the lower leagues. The ban, imo, is fine. Sticking your head in the sand about the affects of gambling sponsorship isn’t.

  22. The sponsorships and advertisements make it more imperative for these rules to be more strict with harsher punishments. And it's a very simple rule to follow. Don't bet on the sport you are paid to play.

Also, the players will greatly benefit from the gambling sponsorships whether it's from general increase of the sport's popularity or higher wages due to revenue increases.

I get why people are turned off by this type of punishment being so heavy compared to things we all may consider more serious. I believe those offenses should be punished harder, not that the gambling violation punishments should be decreased.

  23. Yeah, I think there should definitely be ways to help these players as well if it's clear there is an actual gambling problem and not just a stupid mistake.

Must also be said that Brentford’s owner made his money through a gambling research company. Brighton too, they both leveraged the work done by the owners gambling companies into their data analytics teams.
