It's so bizarre that when I heard Bored To Death in 2016 that I genuinely thought it was the nail in the coffin of Tom being a member of Blink. It felt like new music from them without him was solidifying his time was done.

It's very likely we're about to have footage of him playing that song live. What a time.

Didn’t they write a batch of songs with Tim Armstrong before even hooking up with Feldy to write the Cali stuff? or is my timeline wrong? I can’t remember

A condition of Tom playing Cali songs is that they re-release it with Golden Showers in the Golden State added

Now that you mention it, I do remember the Rabbit Hole drop on the radio. I just looked up official singles on Wiki.

Cynical is about Mark thinking he’ll never write another good song again.

Cynical is probably Marks best songs since Online Songs and that’s saying a lot becuase he’s got a lot of good songs.

It’s also very No Use For Name-esque with the vocal melody.

Cynical is the best song on California. Easily.

The first verse is about that. The rest of the song is quite clearly directed at Tom imho, with the second verse tracking their decision to proceed without him and Skiba’s part reacting to his reaction.

I take both Cynical and Bored to Death to be about Mark’s fears of squandering his creativity while waiting for Tom to commit to making new music, which makes their decision to play those songs a bit weird. I also think both are written to Skiba’s strengths as a singer (grit and power), so I really don’t think Tom will handle them well. Maybe Bored to Death will work, but there’s no way that “WHAT’S THE POINT IN SAYING SORRY NOW?!?” will hit hard enough.

To be honest, even if Mark came out and denied these songs were written about Tom I still wouldn’t believe him — he wrote a song about Tom after the first beak up and was so committed to gaslighting the audience that he called it “No It Isn’t”

I’m looking at the setlist for the last time I saw blink back in 2012. We got some of my favourites like Wishing Well, GOTD, Always, Violence, Josie. Plus Reckless Abandon, Dick Lips, Going Away to College and All of This as the acoustic set. What a night.

I disagree about the “what’s the point in saying sorry now” part - the “saying sorry” part is going to lend itself to Tom so well. Tell me you can’t hear him delivering that.

It sounds like it could be a classic Blink line with Tom delivering it. Obviously we’ll wait and see until and if they play it, but I really think they’re onto something with that pick.

I mean I can only go by what Mark has said. Mark and Feldy have been on record saying that Feldy pushed Mark to write a song about Tom (San Diego) when he realized Mark didn’t have any songs about Tom on the album. Mark didn’t really want to at first as he didn’t want any songs on the album about Tom. So I don’t know.

I think people look into lyrics too closely sometimes and try to connect everything back to Tom. We really don’t know who came up with what lyrics or the intent behind them. For all we know Matt, Feldy or one of the other writers could have written what Matt sings in Cynical. I mean I think you can connect every song on California about Tom if you really try.
