I think we’re in for a great main fight. No doubt Max has a lot of pressure but I cut him slack due to only looking bad against Volk in more recent fights. No way Allen walks through him.

Gunna have to rewatch these fights cuz the crowd sucked the energy out of the whole night for me. people booing during the main event and shit because they weren't fighting on skates the whole time. Almost wish I woulda stayed home for this one tbh. Or paid more for tickets in a different area where people actually cared about what was going maybe? The people next to us showed up before the Bosner/cutelaba fight and left after the first round of the main event.

Dude, same. These idiots behind me were wasted and were trying to be funny the entire night by yelling stupid shit like “grab his dick” and “kiss his ear”. And I don’t mean once. I mean they said each of those things 70 times throughout the night and giggled with each other. They were there starting at the second prelim fight too. It was miserable.

The Munhoz/Gutierrez fight was pretty boring, I’ll admit, but the crowd was either booing or going crazy over people in the stands doing shoeys. Then it seemed like the night just went downhill from there. Neither of the main card KOs brought back the crowds enthusiasm.

it was such a bizarre vibe. I thought the Cummings fight was gunna get people fired up and it was gunna be a fun night but it never got back to that excitement except Max's walk out. That was a lot of fun though. Very happy for Cummings. His daughter coming into the ring was so sweet.

Did you see the guy fall really bad before the Guida fight? It was right by the corner monitor above the main walkout area. I caught it out of the corner of my eye and it looked like someone chucked a waterbottle or something because they were falling so fast. So wild. It was nerve racking watching paramedics handle that and took up a good chunk of that fight. Also more fucked vibes during that cuz a dude sitting way too close to the area just completely tuned out the commotion and was standing up hands in the air jamming out to the Foo Fighters "My Hero" while EMTs scrambled to help this guy who just fell like 15 sections onto his face.

Very strange night. the Barbosa and Royvval KOs were really cool though and seeing a robbery like the Edwards fight IRL was interesting.

holy smokes Royval's knee and the follow up punch and elbows were crazy. I saw the knee but his back was to me and replays were in a bad spot for me so i missed that rest. That was impressive.

I was wondering why the crowd was so loud at random times during certain fights so it makes sense that they were cheering shit that had nothing to do with the fights and doing the dumbass chiefs chants. I guess Bill Algeo’s promo was pretty spot on haha

Re: this knee and the guy falling down the seats - you must have been exactly across the stadium from me. I was directly opposite of the walkout tunnel so I also missed Royval’s knee but it was blocked by Nicolau from the opposite angle lol. We all thought he just blew out his knee or something until they showed it on the big screen. I also couldn’t see those paramedics you mentioned because it was completely dark over there for us.

But yeah it was odd - aside from a few idiots, I felt like the crowd was so amped during the prelims. And it was filled to the brim, almost sold out, so it was extremely loud. Then like right during the Guida fight, the whole crowd turned for some reason. It was like everyone got there too early and got drunk and restless by the time the Pedro fight started.

Belal/Burns is the new co main for 288 and is 5 rounds. That card just got saved big time!

  13. Props to Belal too. Can’t imagine he was even close to weight just a couple weeks out. Shocked it’s 5 rounds

For the love of god can Jack Hermansson stop headlining cards?!

I think all of these except maybe Emmett v Topuria are APEX too.

Apex cards need to stop and these Apex cards are too thin. They need to cut like 25 percent of the fight cards and take these on the road. I love UFC, but don’t need cards every weekend especially if it means main cards with only one or two interesting fights. The next two weekends have interesting main events, but nothing supporting them. The Strickland/Magomedov choice is super puzzling. Never heard of Magomedov and Strickland is boring as hell to watch. These are literally just empty cards to fill the ESPN deal quota.

Completely agree. Sadly nothing is going to change unless ESPN say something because of ratings.

I'm actually surprised they've added Gilbert v Belal as they don't really have any incentive (ie ticket sales) like they did by adding Tony and Jingliang to 279.

Yep. Doubt ESPN gives two shits about fight nights that are on ESPN + because a lot of fans already sign up for the service to buy PPV’s so it isn’t important to them. I’m shocked they added a fight of this magnitude to the 288 card. I thought they’d give us something lame like Costa/Jan which I could care less about.

You know, I've seen so many MMA fighters out themselves as idiots, politically, that I shouldn't even be surprised anymore. But Jake Shields "challenging" 10 trans men to a fight actually still shocked me somehow. "I'm not transphobic, I just want to beat them all up".
